We were in town and asked a local shopkeeper where we could get a good lunch. (Note to travelers: Always ask the locals for suggestions even when using TripAdvisor.) He pointed us to The Wooden Chair, saying it had a fun vibe...not the cheapest place in town but not the most expensive either. He was correct. Portions were ample, service was friendly, and we shared the dining room with lots of other guests—on a weekday in a city filled with restaurants, that’s a sure sign of a good place to eat. We’d return.

I was in Stevens Point early downtown and looking for a breakfast place. This inviting restaurant was open, so I decided to stop in. It is in a rustic style, they don't have many matching wooden chairs--must be part of the decor. They have a good selection of breakfast items. I had the huevo rancheros omelet. The portion was very large. Prices were competitive. Service was very responsive and friendly. If ever in the area again, will have to stop in.

We love riding our bikes on The Green Circle Trail in Stevens Point, and we purposely do the route so we can stop by The Wooden Chair when we get to the two-thirds point. They serve breakfast all day -- on our latest stop the special was a poached egg sandwich. They also have soups, sandwiches and more. You can choose traditional favorites (like a BLT or Monte Cristo) or healthier options (like their new Grain Bowl), or mix and match. That's what we did. I had the Spinach Pesto Chicken sandwich with a side of hash browns. My husband had the Easy Boy with turkey, homemade hummus, cucumbers, red onion, tomato & lettuce on wheat, plus he added a bowl of really flavorful Chicken Quinoa soup that he graciously shared with me. Our waitress was a pleasant young lady who took good care of us. The place is a bit eclectic, with mix-and-match tables and chairs, plus there is a lot of history scattered about that we enjoy looking at -- antiques, pictures, etc.

Breakfast is a must if your in to early, but do not overlook the lunch fare. The sandwiches, salads & soups are first rate! Add up the great atmosphere, superb coffee, friendly service and reasonable cost, it’s a perfect stop.
