This place was a great find. It's built into a hillside overlooking North Twin Lake. Other people staying there told us the fishing was good but we were more excited about seeing so many stars at night, seeing bald eagles circling the water, and hearing loons - all from the doorway of our room! Very clean, quiet, well kept, comfortable room (my husband and I were in #5). There was a funny sign "You're in Phelps. Set your watch back 20 years" :) But really the only creature comfort I missed was cell reception (and that's just a Vilas County thing). I also loved that there was a fire pit so we could roast marshmallows. I got all the nature, relaxation, and privacy of a camping trip, only at the end of the night I got to take a shower, climb into a cozy bed, and watch TV!

We were in the area for a 5 day family reunion & all the other traditional hotels in the area were around $200 per night so at $57 per night, this facility was a huge bargain. There was a sign in our room, "You're in Phelps, Wisconsin. Set your watches back 40 years!" and that pretty much said it all for the motel. There was plenty of room even with 2 queen size beds & a fully stocked kitchenette. The TV got 4 channels (ESPN, CBS, ABC, NBC) but we weren't there much. The room was VERY clean. They changed towels daily. There is no Wi-Fi & very spotty cellular service in the entire area.

I am going to totally agree with "beercan67" review. We were on a motorcycle trip and decided our stop would be in Phelps. What a great decision! The view from this hotel is breathtaking! No, it is not a Holiday Inn Express, but it has a bed and a shower with awesome water pressure, although the height of the showerhead is a tad low. lol. I describe the room as "rustic", but has everything you need. There was even the old slide chain lock on the door. There was a kitchenette, small fridge, silverware and coffee pot, everything we needed. There are plenty of grills and also a firepit outside the hotel. We also ate at the The Great Escape, It was very busy and the service was slow, but the food was good. We will definitely be back! Thanks Rex!!

Stayed here over this last October weekend and the crisp cool Fall air was there too. The sunset was amazing and just as good or better in my opinion then some other International resorts. Prices are very reasonable compared to Eagle River and you don't have that touristy feel, as you do in some towns.

Bedding was excellent, with down blankets with the cool fall air where temps dropped in the low teens that night and definitely frost on the pumpkin.

They offer it as a kitchenette for those that want to to maybe have something of their favorite with two stove top electric burners and frying pans too. Just bring your or dinner plates and silverware, if you want to do something else as they don't have these and not sure why. They also have Microwave and small fridge with a freezer compartment is also offered.

As one of the other reviewers stated they have the sign that say's set your clock back 20 years as your in Phelps, which you should get a laugh or so.

For an overall several night stay, whether the season or the reason you cannot go wrong here.Just rember there is a lot of Northwoods nostology that is simple, yet very nice and the history here around the area.

There are several restaraunts and bars that offer breakfast, lunch and dinner options if you don't fell like traveling back to other towns.

Summer, Fall, Winter, this palce is a great home base that has it all.

I would go back in a heartbeat just for the relaxing Sunsets of North and South Twin Lakes...........

Go enjoy....
