This restaurant is closed. We are sorry to see it go. Maybe something else will move in there. There are lots of other interesting choices in Mount Horeb so keep looking on Trip Advisor

We have gone there a handful of times. LOVED the food each time!!! Yet, we keep hoping the following things change: slow service and really bad lighting. We are all for great food, service, and atmosphere. Unfortunately, the lighting reminded us of bright, awful office lighting.

Please change the bright, office-like lighting to create a more comfortable atmosphere and encourage wait staff to be more prompt (or maybe they need more wait staff?). Whoever is doing the cooking is EXCELLENT! We will try again in the future but hoping the changes will be made to continue visiting:). Best of luck to you as we love to support local businesses!

I have a rule about places that I visit ... I'll always give them a second chance, if the first is bad.

The first time we visited Hop's House and Eatery was during the Mount Horeb's Summer Art Fair. Always a great event and great memories. We wanted to try something different than the Grumpy Troll, so decided to try the Hop's House. It wasn't too crowded, which should have been a clue ... however, the service was stand still. The restaurant was half full (if you're the optimistic type). But it took use 20 minutes to get a menu. Once we ordered, the table next to us got up an left - saying, "we ordered 45 minutes ago and have been here over an hour." The still had not received anything but glasses of water. When the waitress returned, she was shocked to see an empty table. I told her that they just left because they hadn't received their order. Her comments are not printable. When we finally got our order (close to 45 minutes), the food was good. During a recent Christmas shopping trip, we stopped by again. An order of baked chicken was far from cooked through (raw in the middle and un-edible. Everyone's side dishes were cold (4 orders and the waitress we started with disappeared. I was able to get another's attention and she went to get the chef. The chef came and looked at the raw chicken and proceeded to lecture us on that this has never happened before. She asked if we wanted to order something else. By this time it was getting late and we declined. She asked what would make us happy. Besides the usual of getting the meal that we ordered, not paying for the items that were not cooked or were cold would be fine (other than drinks, pretty much the whole meal). The chef was a bit taken aback and offered a 10% discount (which offended me). She ended up offering a 20% discount, which I accepted (I just wanted to leave). When we got the tab, it was for full price. After pointing this out to the waitress (who had to leave to verify) we received the discount. Never again! Fair warning to all - be wary.

A couple of weeks later, behold: The news headlines - business owner arrested (Google it). I have never had such a bad dining experience.

Tried this place on a Saturday night. Many open tables. The server was "new" and didn't seem to have a grasp on what customer service entails. The food arrived after at least 45 long minutes. My husband ordered soup prior to his entree that we had to ask twice to be delivered. When the entrees arrived all of it was cold except the children's Mac & Cheese. The Reuben was made with ham instead of corned beef and was missing the thousand island dressing. It was burned. The Flatbread pizza was also cold. The kids grilled cheese was burned on one side and not cooked on the other. The cheese wasn't even melted. We had to ask for silverware and napkins after the food arrived. We will not be back. Very disappointed.

Stopped here for lunch on the spur of the moment and was glad we did. Everything we ordered was made from scratch -- including the hand made Italian sausage and the delicious Caesar salad dressing. This is the way food is supposed to taste. Even though there's not a lot of fancy ambience, there is a "just right" feel about this place that makes dining here a real pleasure. Although it's a bit of a drive for us, we'll definitely be back.
