The rooms and public areas are very cozy, comfortable and welcoming, blending in with the surrounding beauty of the property perfectly. Particularly impressive is the staff, who are welcoming and go to any length to ensure that your stay is a pleasant one. Whether it's just you, some friends, or a large group (wedding), you will not find a more attentive group of people dedicated to making your stay relaxing and enjoyable. The food at their restaurant is superb and if you want a little break from your quiet relaxation, there is a nice bar onsite on weekends, popular among locals and a great place to meet people in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.

This was the 4th time we have stayed at the Guesthouse Lost River. The weather was great and we enjoyed the relaxing ambiance of the guesthouse, the great food and the peaceful surroundings. A great getaway weekend from the city.

West Virginia is a big place, and this B&B is located on the eastern edge of the state, not too much further out than Shenandoah National Park -- which makes it a convenient drive from DC (or at least more convenient than places deeper into the state). The atmosphere is laid back, and it's clear that Gary and Jesse care about keeping the facilities in good repair and being both available and unobtrusive for their guests.

The Guesthouse is actually comprised of several buildings arranged around a large common building housing the restaurant, the bar, and plenty of rooms and nooks for playing billiards, curling up in front of a gas fireplace with a book, or chatting with friends. The majority of the guest rooms are in a large building overlooking the swimming pool (the building also has a gym and a movie room). The other cottages with several rooms each are accessible via pathways at a little further distance, but they have their own common areas and full kitchens.

The restaurant is only open on Friday and Saturday evenings, and there are few nearby options for food, so if you're planning on staying for a night other than Fri/Sat, having your own kitchen is definitely a plus!

Breakfast is served family-style promptly at 9am (hot pancakes or biscuits or whatever the dish of the day is passed around long tables) so might not be convenient for late-risers or guests looking to set off on sunrise hikes. No complaints on the selection -- plenty of coffee, fruit, eggs, sausages...

Overall, it's a great base for exploring some of the parks in this part of the WV and is a quiet getaway from city life. There is no cell service, though, so make sure to print your driving directions (once you reach the B&B, there is free wifi) and be careful of local wildlife if there's fog.

"Can we live at the Guest House, Mommy?" were the exact words my daughter asked me as we were packing up from family weekend there a few weeks ago. Gary and Jesse went above and beyond in organizing a slam-dunk family weekend for our kids (ages 15, 11 and 6), and as always, the food, atmosphere and TLC they showered upon us adults was exceptional. Need I say more?

The staff and facility were exceptional and could not be any more attentive.. The facility was very well maintained.. The rooms were plush and very comfortable.. The dinning room menu was varied, interesting and the meals were well prepared and thoroughly enjoyable.. Time actually seemed to slow while we were there..making the stay even more enjoyable..
