Cinco de Mayo started early this year! At 6pm, we were unable to get into Taqueria Antojo and decided to revisit Los Amigos given good recent reviews - this in spite of a couple medicore visits in the past. Sadly, it lived down to past visits.

The counter service was nice but I was very unhappy with my food on our recent visit. Yes, this is authentic, but the prep is sub-par. The chile relleno was cold in the center - clearly it had been prepared in advance and then cooked to order...they completely failed to heat it through. Worse, the lengua (tongue) was not cleaned well. This is one of my big tests for any place. All of the outer parts had not been removed, nor all the "extraneous bits". It also did not smell clean. If you eat lengua or tripa you know what I mean.

So - nice people, but no thanks.

Other recommendations: Taqueria Antojo, Tortas Locas for sandwiches & tacos (just down the street), Tres Amigos.

It is not only a restaurant, but a grocery store and bakery too. They serve delicious and authentic Mexican food. Good service and value.

We moved up to the Northwest from Southern California in 1990 and for many years have only found Americanized non-authentic Mexican food up here. A few years ago we found a wonderful taqueria in Yakima but nothing on the West side of the Cascades. We have been to Los Amigos many times and have had all fantastic meals. Our usual order is their Taco plate (5 tacos for $6). We especially love their Lengua (beef tongue) because they grill it until it is crispy before serving. This past meal we had Chili Rellenos and Menudo. The Chilis were large and very fresh while the batter was not overwhelming. And the tripe in the Menudo was soft and very well-done. I can't stand rubbery or even tough tripe in any dish (Mexican or other) because it shows the restaurant doesn't care. There is an extensive condiment bar and several choices of authentic Mexican beverages - Horchata, Tamarindo, Melon, etc... We rarely see customers who are not large Mexican families, sometimes the counter help does not speak English, there are always telemundo soap operas playing on the TVs, and Los Amigos is connected to a Mexican grocery all of which make the entire experience truly authentic. The food is fresh and made to order, the restaurant is clean and the service is friendly.
