Description: Sizzle and smoke define Asado Cucina Argentina, the South Sound's only Argentine-themed steakhouse and a staple restaurant of the trendy Sixth Avenue dining district. Heady smoke wafts from the display kitchen where chefs sear beef over a mesquite grill. Low lighting is moody by night, bright and beautiful by day because of the expansive garage doors that roll up in the summertime, spilling diners onto Sixth Avenue. A mural evokes pastoral Argentina. Metalwork and heavy doses of deep-hued wood create a rustic urban palette. Social by design, with a large chef's table straddling the display kitchen. Bench booth seating connects diners to neighbors, but without being overly intrusive. The word "asado" means a gathering of friends for a grill party - the Argentine equivalent of an American patio barbecue - and that theme translates into a convivial gathering spot for friends and family. A steakhouse with a flavor-forward menu with preparations licked with smoke and sophistication.

Have been to Asado before and always been happy but last week ate twice in one week with poor cooking. My wife ordered a salad with chicken and chorizo where the chicken skewer came cold from the fridge rather than hot off the grill. The next trip we came with another couple and my flat iron steak ordered medium came very rare to be inedible. The first day there were few customers and it was busy the next time. The staff was gracious and bought us dessert, but the chef should have been embarrassed. Servers and management was very nice and the rest of the meal was great, but a sad situation for us when we brought our friends promising great food.

If you're after a good filet, this is the spot in Tacoma. Highly recommended by all of our peeps who live or study here, we joined another family for a very filling meal of shared empanadas and steak with sides (potatoes and greens). The portions are very generous so best to share if you find even 8oz too large for a small filet. The banana ice cream is a must for dessert and the Malbec by the glass was heaven.

My wife and I went for a date night dinner to Asado for the first time (lunch on previous visit). Both of our meals were fantastic. My wife had the beef tenderloin and I had the pork chop. The Argentinian flavors are great and offer a distinction from other steak houses and upscale restaurants. They have a good wine list to chose from as well. We will definitely be coming back
