The location of this cottage is great, it is right on the river and a short walk to the restaurant and the Fireside Lounge. We had an early dinner at the restaurant and enjoyed the food. The cottage is in need of some tender loving care. You really need to bring all of the utensils and pans you need to cook with their knives barely cut. The hot tub was well maintained and we used that every day, make sure you bring your own towel. It would be helpful if they had a place to hang that wet towel to dry other than outside on the cottage. We went to the Fireside Lounge every night and danced to the music of Don Forgey, he made the stay fantastic.

We ordered the Whistlin Jack Lodge - Nachos. They have their " blend" in the nachos. With no description of what "the blend is" It took 1/2 hour to get our order. The nachos came out cold with black lumps of hamburger on top. Also the blend included mushrooms. Who puts mushrooms on Nachos?

The location is great! The restaurant has some potential with an attempt at finer dining, but there is a gas station basically attached. The food is alright but seems a bit pricey. It's nice to stop by every now and then. If you're in Yakima the food at the Woodshed is really good and cheaper but granted it is more of a dive bar.

They market themselves as being rustic and charming, but shoddy is not the same as rustic and beyond the charming setting, at least in the "lodge" units, there is nothing charming about a motel room with small scratchy bath towels you have to leave the shower area to find, a light in the bathroom too dim to do a crossword puzzle by, a solitary waste basket in the vanity area for the entire unit, a toilet seat that is only attached on one side and slides around when you sit on it, no luggage racks, no fridge, no phone, no wifi, no TV. (They market these last items as a plus so one can "get way from it all.")

I'm content in rooms like this @ $50 or $60. At $130 before taxes, I find myself noticing what all is wrong with a place, and in this establishment there was plenty.

I didn't rate it terrible, because it isn't terrible. The beds were comfy. With the window open a bit one could enjoy the babbling river. The hot water worked. As a stop along the highway for a reasonable price, no problem; or it would have been just fine for the money in the heart of a major city, but 40 miles from Yakima? In my opinion we paid double what this place should cost.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the numbered rooms called the "lodge."

Where to start? Pulled into the parking lot and the whiskey tango crowd was out in full force. Lots of in appropriate language from general riff raff outside, inside you enter at the hotel(?) lobby. Most unfriendly welcome I have ever received at a customer service establishment. Walked around the corner to the restaurant lobby, Hostess must have been having one of those days because she was almost irritated that we showed up to eat...seriously this is a restaurant...where customers come to eat. Once we were seated the waitress was kind and helpful. However, after our order it took 43 minutes (I counted) to receive our food (a burger and chicken entree). She came back several times to apologize for the wait, the place was only half full so I cant figure out why it took so long. AND the two groups next to us each had order issues, one sent an order back because the vegetables were still cold and the other was a family of 10 and two of the children didn't have their food when the rest of the family received it. When our food finally showed up, the burger was well-well done and the chicken was barely ok. Truck stop type food with fine dining prices. we paid at the table and left past the hostess (no thank you for coming in or anything) and the front desk ladies (whom we said goodbye too without ANY acknowledging response, seriously?). It was as if the entire place didn't want customers. Never.Ever.Ever again, there are several other places closer to Naches that look way more inviting. Cant figure how this place stays in business, bad service, bad food, bad prices.
