“Nice hike - seems tough at first but provides beautiful vista at the end”

This was our first hike of our Blue Ridge Road Trip. We brought lunch and started up. At first it's tough, a lot of stairs and incline. I think Alltrails said it was 1100 feet. I think that was exaggerated but it's still a decent trek. We went up to the upper falls and to the bald mountain at the top. At the top, there are some benches and a little wall to avoid sliding down. Opposite the wall we saw a snake which was cool. We saw lots of interesting creatures including salamanders as well as caterpillars. It was a really nice hike. Good length around 3.5 miles.

IMO tis is one of the best falls trails in VA. This is primarily a cascade type of waterfall with 5 (I think) and is listed as one of the tallest in VA. Again, IMO although it's primarily cascade type, I see some of the cascades as tiered, and near the top as a plunge type of waterfall. Whatever they are it's beautiful. Relatively easy to access, not far from Waynesboro exit of the Interstate. There's a easy to climb trail that's well maintained along the waterfalls with several stops to enjoy the beauty. The trail has both switchback patch and in some steep sections, stairs created on the path to easy access for all. We've taken our dogs here and they loved it too. The view from the top is awesome, especially in the fall with fall colors. One caution, please don't climb on the falls as several have not fared well when trying. Enjoy!

This hike was a bit more difficult then I originally thought; we made our way 3.5 miles (one way) to the Appalachian trail! Wear good shoes and bring water + snacks.
Trail is dog friendly; keep dogs on leash.

The trail starts out paved and easy to the first overlook at the Falls. from there the trail becomes more challenging. The higher you go the better the views. The trails are in good shape and very well marked. The trail has a lot of switchbacks due to the fact that you are climbing over 1000 feet in 1.7 miles of trail. they have a $3 fee on the Honor system. At the top there is no falls view but it is a great view of the Tye river Valley worth the trip to the top. We took our two dogs and they did well on the trail.

Wonderful views from the top and scenic rests along the way. Plan to take your time and perhaps have a picnic at the top.
