Description: A memorable farm-to-fork dining experience! In 1607, the Susan Constant, Discovery, and Godspeed reached the shores of Virginia. After exploring several sites along the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, the colonists, fearing pirates and Spanish competition, decided to explore further inland. Captain Gabriel Archer, after whom the restaurant is named, proposed they settle on land where The Williamsburg Winery now stands. In 1987 the Duffeler family constructed the Gabriel Archer Tavern on the footprints of an old farm shed on the grounds of Wessex Hundred. Originally, this first completed winery structure housed barrels, bottling equipment, and the finished wines. Today, its mission is to provide a memorable farm-to-fork dining experience that’s both delicious and nourishing. Lunch is served daily with all day brunch offered on Sundays.

We went to lunch after the noon wine tour so my judgement might have been more easily swayed. All the fare that we ordered was very good and showed some imagination. The Oyster Rockefeller was excellent.
My one critique would be the service. The restaurant was never full so that was not the answer, the service was simply slow. Our waitress while very pleasant was not very attentive. There is a fine line between hovering and ignoring, they simply chose to veer towards the ignore stage.
When it came time to depart I finally ended up standing up in order to get attention. The waitress was there immediately and took care of our doggy bag and check promptly. However I see this more and more often and am confused over it. At a time when they should be anxious to please and get paid for their service, far too often they make you wait.
Overall I will go back but I do hope they improve upon this one area.

Dined here for lunch with friends. Seated in flat ceiling extension to main room. It was a hot day., no air conditioning and 1 fan to move air around. Very stuffy. Meals arrived at different times, mine was forgotten for 15 minutes then turned up while everyone else was eating. Most dishes were bland and unseasoned. Bread pudding was dry. Service was indifferent. Can't understand the fuss over this place. It was very ordinary.

A group of 11 for lunch.
The bread was cold on sandwiches.
When we pointed it out they simply put the bread in a microwave. On a $16 sandwich.
When the checks came the gratuity was added at 20% but that was taxed. The manager was asked for and said no. We questioned why the tax was 13.1%. He said it was in the system and could not be changed. Additionally he added the tax was 8%. So mediocre over priced food and false taxes being charged.

Casual setting at the Williamsburg winery. We enjoyed a winetasting across the road before hand. Oysters were excellent every way: raw, Rockefeller, baked. Crab sandwich was also excellent. Salad was good but lamb ham in it was an oddity; probably wouldn’t order it again. Nice selection of craft beers.

Went with a group of friends good service in a lovely setting BUT the food was very disappointing Came out at different times, overcooked, undercooked and even though the menu looks great the food quality lacks for the money. Might have been a bad day, not sure. Won't go back to find out.
