The most important thing to me when booking a hotel room is knowing that it's clean and bug free. (this place was relatively clean and no bugs) I don't have crazy expectations & want to stress that I was a guest of a friend who has an Interval time share. I did not have to pay for my stay, though my friend certainly did/does & there was a transfer fee as well. I only say this to stress that I would have a different review had I paid the nightly rate or if I were an interval owner. The check in experience: This hotel was the only one available for a last minute reservation so I could use my owner friend's week before it expired. The lobby was clean & nice in appearance. I knew what to expect with the 'welcome pack' and the time share appointment. The time share desk was staffed with 2 people the duration of my stay. The check in desk often had just one person answering the phone, dealing with various issues, and checking in guests. There was only 1 person ahead of me at check-in, but it took me about 20 minutes to get key. Even though I was guest of an owner, I was told there was a $10 per day parking fee, which I waived since off season street parking is an option. The valet/attendant did bring me a luggage cart when I requested one, but did not offer to help me with luggage. He also seemed like I should rush to move my car, which was problematic since all parking was across the street and I couldn't leave luggage unattended. I would expect a better check in process at a 'resort'. The room: Room number had a number & letter. The key card opens the door in the hall and there are 2 rooms within. An owner has option of the entire suite, but they do rent them separately. I had the small efficiency. The other room (within the suite that I didn't have access to) had the kitchen/suite. This was fine for my daughter & I, especially under the circumstances, but our room was very small. There was a small bathroom, small table, mini fridge and a queen bed. No room to move around, so ok for a couple days but kind of small for 2 people staying a week. The room was not visibly dirty though housekeeping had left dirty cleaning rags on the counter. The TV remote didn't work, though they replaced it when we informed front desk. The bedspread was stained, so we removed it. The chairs and decor was worn and in need of updating, but not terrible, just not what I would expect for a time share resort. The time share tour: Upon check in, they send you to get your welcome pack and they make it seem like it's not an option as to whether you take a time share tour. I was truly interested in what they had to say, plus they offered a gift card + free 3 day stay, so I scheduled. They tried to say a $20 deposit was mandatory. The stay: The first morning we were awoken by the very loud fire alarm and had to go downstairs at 7am in our pjs and stand outside in the cold while the fire dept. came. We were informed that someone set off alarm by cooking. There was absolutely no cell service in the room and we had to walk down the hall to use the phone or check messages for the entire stay. The wi-fi did not work anywhere on the floor, so we had to go downstairs to the lobby to check email, etc. The 2nd morning (only other day we had to sleep in), we were startled awake by the fire alarm. We had to go downstairs and stand out in the cold once again while the fire dept. responded. Then back upstairs. We tried to joke and keep a positive attitude, but had I paid, I would not have been happy about this. There were paying guests with broken legs and going through chemo who this inconvenienced more than me. The good : Despite all this, we enjoyed our trip. We explored and went site-seeing during the day. The location is great. The beach and boardwalk, even in the off season, were very nice. There were a lot of wonderful restaurants within walking distance. I did cancel the time share tour, b/c even if they could explain how the cost is warranted w/ the point system, I would have much higher expectations if I were an owner. This place did not have a 'resort' feel. It was a fairly nice oceanfront condo in a great location. I do need phone service and wifi when I travel, so if I did consider staying again, I would want to verify I was in a room with service. After returning home, I noticed that they charged my credit card for parking I didn't use, but they immediately removed it when I called and brought to their attention.
