Wow no expense has been spared on this most shinny and marble filled palace, from the ample walk in wardrobe to the high tech flat screen tvs and ipad control system every possible high tech luxury is at hand it's has the feel more of an Italian Villa than a Caribeen beach side place to chill, its formal and polished the service is beyond 5 star.

On January 21, 2019, our trip to Heaven to celebrated my wife's birthday started in Barbados where we were greeted be a VIP concierge - a very pleasant individual who greeted us and escorted away from from the mass arriving passengers, onto our connecting flight to Canouan Is. Upon arriving at the Mandarin Htl. we were personally greeted by the Duty Mgr, GM, our Butler and other staff members.
Our stay was met and exceeded our expatiation. Prior to arriving I contacted Mr. Rohan -Mgr. and requested some roses. He searched the Island and finally had 2 dozen roses flown from Barbados. On the day of the birthday my Butler together with staff planed a most memorable day of my wife's life. Started from the cabana to the 13 hole golf course aprox. 850 FL, drinking champagne and view almost all of the Grenadines Island. Amazing views !
Our daughter loves going to the Kids Club. However, due to the season, she was the only one there. The staff was caring and kept her busy with various activities. One morning as we were having breakfast I ran into the GM, he asked me how my daughter was enjoying the Kids Club, I told him that she was the only child there. He told my daughter that he will arrange for some local kids to have a kiddy party. Sure enough, after I dropped her off at 10 am, there were a classroom full with kids from the local school. UNBELIEVABLE !
Sadly, our 8 days of pampering came to an end.
The resort's new moto should be...WE DON'T SAY NO !

The hotel is magnificent. The beach is beautiful and the rooms, restaurants and facilities available were fantastic. The staff give the hotel real character and life and make a great hotel even better -- in particular THANK YOU to our butler Lennie and to Delisha at the Front of House.

Mandarin Oriental group just took over management of this property in July 2018. The management are predominantly MO with most waiting, domestic and maintenance staff local islanders (from Canouan and the biggest island St Vincent.)

The team bring both excellent service and friendliness together to make your stay so welcoming you truly never want to leave.

As it’s still new to the MO portfolio - its currently a hidden gem but I warn you, it will not stay this way. The only thing that keeps mass tourism from invading is the route to Canouan. You need a yacht, a private jet or a small commuter plane (18 seater prop) that hops across several grenadine Islands from Barbados dropping passengers before arriving on the Canouan airstrip (actually the longest in the grenadines and can - but doesn’t- land a 737)

The hotel itself is a vast luxury palace with only 26 suites - each magnificently appointed with marble floors, beautiful furnishings, exceptional bathrooms, sheets and amenities including electronically controlled lights, climate and even tv in a retractable mirror door. It’s 5/6 star. The pool is stunning, the resort private with larger villas for rental in the surrounding acres where guests can also utilise the resorts facilities. 2 near deserted beaches of white sand and turquoise sea fully equipped with mattresses sun loungers, thatched sunshades, towers, cold water and yes ... full food and beverage service. If you want to know what it feels like to be Sir Richard Branson on his private Necker Island then this is as close as you can get. The resort was so quiet at times we were the only 2 guests on shell beach with 8-10 staff in attendance. This ratio was actually reflected all over the resort. (Late Jan is a great time to go - the Holiday Season was apparently at capacity.)

Due to the lack of guests restaurants and bars were opened on a rotating basis but food and wine was of excellent quality. The staff are priceless ...

... which brings me to the catch. This place is not for the fiscally faint hearted. It’s a perfect quiet romantic honeymoon destination or for a special celebration. It’s discrete, elegant and attracts a predominantly adult, mature traveller. Basically the ones who can afford it! This is my ultimate luxury relaxation destination. And I will return.

This boutique, super luxurious resort has a real South of France vibe to it. The rooms are all gorgeous suites magnificently furnished and appointed, consisting of entry hall, very large dressing room lined with mirrors and luxurious bathroom with amazing shower and double sinks. The bedroom opens onto a nice sized living room which in turn opens to a glass and screen enclosed sunroom. We enjoyed hearing the ocean through our screen door at night. The fact that the ocean, and our beach chairs and umbrella were a few steps outside the room was divine. The hotel sits on the Atlantic side (as opposed to the Caribbean side) so the water is choppy, but swimmable. There are no large waves. There is a nice trade wind at the beach that was helpful in countering the heat. The level of service at the beach is amazing. The staff was incredibly conscientious about making sure we were comfortable, getting us towels, water, moving our chairs in and out of the sun as needed, and just in general totally friendly and delightful. Every request was
responded to promptly and with a smile. This is true for the entire staff throughout the whole property. The hotel also has a more sheltered beach with calm water that you get to with a 3 minute dinghy ride. Named Shell Beach, even though it has no shells on it,
there is staff and also chairs and plenty of atmosphere and shade to it. We preferred the main beach though as the water was clearer. On the estate side of the island there is another gorgeous beach at L'ance Guyout with a very Caribbean vibe and no people on it. The hotel car is happy to take you there and bring you back but only on the days when the restaurant on the site is open, because otherwise there is no staff there.
The pool at the hotel is probably the prettiest setting for a Caribbean pool we have seen as it is set up a flight of stairs and the infinity pool overlooks the ocean--just magnificent-- with very comfortable beach loungers around it.
The food was delicious and plentiful but expensive. There are a few restaurants and the hotel decides the schedule for the opening of the restaurants--there are usually 2 to choose from on any given night.
We were pampered and in the lap of luxury for our 11 night stay. Yes, this is an all day proposition to get to from the East Coast of the U.S. but it is really worth it. (We met many other guests who arrived by private jets). As others have said this resort sets the bar high for everyone else to try to imitate. Thanks to everyone from Michelle in reservations down to the maids in housekeeping for making our vacation so special. We dream about returning.
