We went on an all inclusive with our 6 and 9 year olds,
and hadn't done this type of holiday before.
Great First Choice & spanish hotel staff throughout. Any kind of problem, the smiling hotel staff always fixed per your wishes.

Buffet food did have a good variety, and reasonable quality.
Entertainment each evening until 11, and the loud music for another 1/2 hour.
Children's activities all day.
Great pools.

Sunbeds ... was good that locked up overnight, to stop selfish soles towelling on way to bed. But simply not enough of beds and parasols (vital in the August sun). So, after swearing I'd never do this, each day I set the alarm for 7 meaning no holiday lay-ins, to join dozens and dozens of Brits spread out round the various pools grabbing their pitches. Rightly, I suppose, you had to stay with your towels until the ritual 8.30 unlock of beds, otherwise the First Choice managers would whisk any unsupervised 'cheaters' towels away from the poolside. Rest of my family got good sleep, but nice for me to come home and relax!
(This could be partly eased with even more beds and parasols. There was some space).

It is tempting to stay in the complex, but made our way down to the town once or twice. Nice promenade walk with restaurants and bars to watch the world walk past, and view of bay.

Holiday inevitably very expensive because of school holidays, but a good modern hotel.

We chose this resort as it looked great in the brochure. When we arrived it certainly met our expectations and more. The entrance area was very clean and well maintained. Reception staff were very friendly and polite. When we entered our room,we were very impressed with the size of it, it was also very clean with great views of the pool from the balcony. The pools were great, very warm around mid morning. We also felt that there was something for everyone, a great splash pool for the kids and quiter areas of the larger pools for older children and adults. As for the dining,we couldnt fault it at all. There was plenty of variety day and night, as our children are quite fussy eaters we were quite worried that they would go hungry but this was far from the case. They were able to choose something different every night. Evening entertainment was pretty average once the childrens entertainment had finished, but the atmosphere was very friendly. We would return to this resort time and time again. Would recommend to all.

We enjoyed the stay, but the rooms need a real overhaul. Lots of comments on here saying that there are fine, and that you only sleep there, but I don’t agree. Our room was very worn, and looked old, and dated. The cleaning was not great either– brown dirt around the back of the toilet seat. It was around the fittings, so I’m hoping it was rust!! Mess, and rubbish left in one of the drawers. Dust, and a carrier bag under the curtains – which plainly meant that the floor hadn’t been properly mopped.

Also, all the rooms, and hallways in the blocks have been varnished on the tiled floors, and most of the varnish has now been worn away, which makes the floors always look wet. It also adds to the worn look.

On a positive note I thought that all the hotel staff were all really helpful, polite, and very nice. They all seemed to move around all the bars, and restaurants, and without fail were all great.

The First Choice reps however were another story. We stayed around the splash pool most days, and this was right next to the kids clubs. Sitting there one day, and all the kids were walking out being lead by the reps, and the rep at the back walked around the post whilst holding a child’s hand, and just let the 3-4 year old child smack straight into it. Amazing child care!! Also, the reps had no knowledge of the area, or the hotel. Just speak to a member of the hotel staff. Also, quite often the various kids clubs would leave the kids club building, and would be found sitting on one of the grass areas around the hotel. They would always be sitting in the blazing sun, and never in the shade. Most of the kids didn’t have hats on!! Admittedly, this could just be the parents error, but whilst in the reps care they are the ones responsible.

My son is 8, and he really wasn’t interested in the kids club though, and I found the sessions to be aimed at far younger children. There was ‘dress up as your favourite superhero’, and another one about ‘making a collage’. Not really aimed at the right age. The sessions are also really rigid time wise, and there was always a long queue to get in, and parents were generally starting queuing up 25 mins before the session was due to start. Also, not enough spaces – Were the amount of children arriving a surprise? We were on a cruise recently, and the kids club were far more relaxed, and you could drop them for a visit when he wanted to. Not queue, and then might not get them in – which happened often.

The food was nice though, and we ate in both of the speciality restaurants. The Mexican is at the pool which was fine on an August evening, but I’m sure it’s not as nice in late October. It’s the pool snack bar during the day which has been converted with white linen tablecloths. Enjoyed the Italian more though, and thought that the food was better. It was easy to get a reservation too. Drinks were all ok, and even when there was a queue in the evenings this was always reduced quickly.

So, all in all we enjoyed the hols, but wouldn’t stay at the hotel again.

I went to Holiday Village Majorca (Viva) from 17th – 24th August with my wife and two daughters (aged 11 & 9) and had a great time. We had previously been to the Holiday Village Turkey so we spent a lot of time comparing the two.

The kids club is free (bar the odd event – chocolate party) and you receive a free t-shirt, baseball cap and water bottle/pouch so I would certainly recommend it. The kids can pick and choice the activities they want so don’t have to go all day every day.

The entertainment team (Lucy, Ryan, Michelle and Kenny) are very talented and put on the majority of the shows. Our kids were a little too old for the kids entertainment which seemed more focused on giving out certificates and dressing up a teddy bear. We all enjoyed the evening shows that included Grease, an ABBA tribute and Cinderella to name but a few. They also bring in a few good acts which saw this stocky man spinning my wife on the air using his legs and a metal bar.

The swimming pool was large but limited, it could have done with some flumes for older kids as the kids pool was far too small for my two girls (tiny slides etc).

I liked the fact that the sun beds were stacked and locked up each evening as it stopped people reserving them at ridiculous times. Every morning I would get up at 7.30am and wonder down to the pool at 8am. You have to do this to reserve an umbrella that are fixed in place so essentially reserving your spot for your sunbed. I was never the first to get there and so was only left with a few options, I’d hate to think of what time the rest arrived. At 8.30am they would unlock the sunbeds and within minutes the pool was empty, every one would head back to their room or to breakfast. We always managed to get a sunbed, there were plenty left, it was the umbrellas that were in short supply.

The staff were really friendly, especially the bar staff that worked long hours and always greeted you with a smile. They worked really quickly so you never queued for long. In the restaurant as you lifted the last item off your plate, the plate was suddenly taken. This could get a little annoying but if you go with the flow and get yourself another, if you want second helpings, then this is actually better than seeing a pile of plates building up on your table. The food was top quality with plenty of choice but I did find myself craving foods they didn’t offer much of. They always had a large meat joint on offer and plenty of salad. Dessert night was amazing.

The games and activities during the day were fun but the equipment was a let down. The darts competition included only 2 darts, one that was blunt so you would throw two and retrieve one for your third throw. The dart board has seen better days. The table tennis bats have no rubber so you have to play with just wooden paddles. The staff were actually embarrassed by this.

There was also no pool side music as someone had stolen the equipment a couple of weeks earlier.

The bed wasn't very comfortable and made a loud noise every time I moved!

Please note the transfer from the airport is actually an hour and not 40 mins.

In general this is how I compare Majorca to Turkey:

Staff are far more friendly
Much more choice behind the bar including cocktails on tap. However it didn’t matter how much I drunk, I could get drunk or even slightly tipsy.
Free ice cream all day
Easier to get sunbed and umbrella
Beach is 15 mins walk with plenty of shops, restaurants and bars to visit.
Not much to do in pool but swim or join in water polo.
Only had one entertainment venue and all on one level so not as easy to see if you’re at the back.

The swimming pool was huge and was much better than Majorca.
Umbrellas could be moved about but this did leave to arguments between guests when they are stolen because no one was using them for a few hours.
Sunbeds out permanently so reserved in the middle of the night which made it difficult to get when you arrive in the morning.
The site was two hotels and you get to choose which entertainment you want to see.

I would recommend this holiday but more for younger families with kids up to 8 yrs.

Have just returned back from an all inclusive stay at the First Choice Holiday village in Can Picafort with my husband and two children (3 and 4 year old). The room we were in (block 1) was tired looking, with a cracked toilet seat and chipped furniture and mouldy black out blinds. The beds were really uncomfortably and noisy, foam soft beds and we often woke up with back ache. Appreciate you can't get beds to suit all. If you looked past all of this you could see the room was clean but definitely in need of updating and not as 4 star as other holiday villages that we have stayed in. The resort, Can Picafort was not bad although Can Picafort is quite small and quiet and very German focused, Playa del Muro or Alcudia would be better suited if you want to get out of the village during the day or night.

The entertainment team worked really hard to keep the children amused and there were lots of activities for them to take part in. The pools were big but unless you were down at them for 7:30-8am it was hard to secure a bed with a parasol especially around the splash pool. It was one of the downers of the holiday, having to get up early to secure a bed even though the reps stated that early bed hoggers would be removed- never saw this to be honest. Lots of families we spoke to were complaining and seeing the doctor for ear infections, all being cited towards the cleanliness of the pools. We did have one day when we couldn't use the splash pool for the afternoon as someone had pooped in the pool and they needed the cleaning chemicals to work through the system. The life guard stated it would be out of action for only an hour but I think he'll find it's normally a lot longer and I certainly didn't put my two back in there for 24 hours.

Food was great, lots of variety - only on one day did we see a repeat menu - lots of choice for all. Again, unless you arrived at dinner early between 6:30-7pm you often had to queue to get in to the restaurant, although you didn't have to wait too long- it just happened we were staying in a full occupancy week. The Italian restaurant is actually a cornered off section of the main restaurant and the Tex Mex is the beach bar converted at night - didn't use either so can't comment on food and quality.

Sadly our stay was hampered by the fact my daughter broke out in chickenpox - we ended up having to stay an additional 3 days and be confined to the hotel room. The First Choice Reps, Dan and Marion, were rude and very unhelpful. They didn't seem bothered or prepared to help us out - very poor customer service.

We've stayed in First Choice villages before, I don't think this was quite on par with others - the rooms are not 4 star but the kids activities and clubs are.

Room Tip: If you can get a select room with a garden, you had your own private sunbeds
