Hotel is ok.
Room and bathroom are fine and clean. However, the swimming pool and the jacuzzi are a disaster.
Do not consider the photos on trip advisor. If you get there you will notice that the pool is a bit dirty, the tails are comming off the wall. The global infrastructure must be revamped.

Breakfast is just enough.

If you just go for a sleep, it is fine. If you go for enjoying the spa too, don't go !

This is a little rustic but it more than makes up for the lack of up to date amenities with the fantastic staff, quirky little elevator and proximity to the ocean. While it is a ways away from the center of Porto it is a short and cheap ($1,95eur) bus ride through the real city. Restaurant was right next door and there were lots of beach front restaurants for other choices.

Lovely views from our room overlooking the sea. Room large but looking tired this applied to most of the hotel. The bathroom actually looked as if it had been given a upgrade and was lovely but water could have been hotter.

Didn't use pool so unable to comment.

Breakfast was very good, no stale bread as other people have commented, Quite a good choice and with lovely views.

Good sized free car park opposite hotel.

There is a bar in the hotel but the service was awful very little choice and very expensive.

Hotel about 4 miles outside of Porto but if a nice day and your are feeling energetic there is a nice walk following the beach and then the river into Porto,or there is a bus service that costs just under 2 euros each way.

I couldn't find any restaurant listing for this hotel so reviewing the restaurant part. We had the most delicious meal so far on our tour of Portugal! The seafood (all) was perfect as was the main waiter, he was a delight to have served us.

Room Tip: Water side

What others have said is perfectly true: this is closer to a two star hotel. It is vetust and much needs to be done to bring it up to scratch.

Positives first:

We liked the room, which had good dimensions, matching retro furniture, a boxed balcony large enough to sit in and a magnificent view south along the beach with the Atlantic waves rolling in. The personnel at the desk are polite and do actually say hello to you, which is becoming increasingly unusual.

There is a good-sized pool downstairs. We usually had it to ourselves. The water is clean. This is important because the beach is impossible to swim from. Many rocks and the force of the rollers make it too dangerous. I’m a strong swimmer and tried to get in once and would not recommend it.

Negatives:

The mattress and base have springs, so it may not be ideal if you have a bad back.

The shower is fixed and there is never any hot water. If you want a hot shower, with a shower head you can move, you need to go down to the pool changing rooms.

One of the reasons few people use the facilities downstairs is because it all looks dilapidated and uninviting. On many occasions, the lights in the two exercise areas did not work. Same was true in the shower area.

The operating console for the men’s Turkish bath is broken. If you want to use it, you have to open a grubby and water warped door without a handle to the left of the bath and flick the switch on the tank. Sometimes the bath became hot, sometimes not. There was no way to activate the women’s Turkish bath.

The jacuzzi worked (switches on the side) but was sometimes warm and sometimes cold.

When it rains, and it rained a lot during our stay, the roof of the pool leaks quite heavily.

Breakfast was poor. Bread was either stale or defrosted, not sure which. The toaster works, though. Milk for cereals was never cold. Don’t bother with the fruit juices. Scrambled egg available but cold. Coffee from a machine and undrinkable.

The breakfast personnel were not very helpful. Getting one fried egg each was a constant problem throughout the stay and often had to be ordered more than once to receive anything. They took a very long time to arrive. One morning, the two personnel on duty refused to understand and laughed at me when I ordered in English and then ‘huevos fritos’ which although Spanish, is not very far from the Portuguese. Personnel from reception had to be called. Although no one told us that the eggs would cost extra and there was no sign to that effect, we were charged 1€20 for each egg at the end of the stay. So much for four stars.....

The hotel is close to the beach, but that picture which shows a wooden walkway winding through to sand dunes does not lead from the hotel. There is quite a lot of fantasy in the hotel’s description of what it offers. We thought it was significantly overpriced in comparison to others stays made in the Algarve region of Portugal.
