It seems that the people at Trattoria a Rosano wanted to pick the hardest fight: the one with mums in the kitchen. Generally speaking the menu offers a selection of classic dishes, from antipasti to desserts, of the homemade cuisine tradition from Tuscany. The choice of raw materials reflects the fact the restaurant is co-located with a "bottega", a deli selling hand picked cheese, cold cut, wine and preserves. The "bottegaio" or "salumiere" "di fiducia", that is the deli owner whom you can trust. No mum wants to get fooled with poor ham or cheese!
Going in order and starting from the location, the place is not a luxury dining room, but a comfortable, welcoming countryside eatery, where you can sit outside and enjoy the perfumed and caressing air of Tuscan countryside. Mind it is not very far from a road, meaning you can easily access and park, but you might hear cars every now and then. The hostess is superb. A friendly, smiling lady passionate for her job. Confirmed rumours say that once she took out a whole pile of tablecloths and put them on the shoulders of her guests as an emergency blanket, since the weather became unexpectedly chill outside.
We did not sample much of the menu: mixed cold cuts and cheeses, plus "crostini" as starter, and the classic Florentine T-bone as main. Needles to say, cold cuts and cheeses were delicious, full of character and served in generous amounts. We were offered a 1.3 Kg steak, which was presented to us before cooking. It should be noted that 1.3 is on the small side, but the personnel was fully aware of that and they offered it saying that we could of course ask for a larger one. We took that, for three. The steak was done to perfection, scorched on the surface, all over, so that every bite gave a burst of rich charcoal, meat and melting fat in the mouth. The inside was soft and juicy, warm yet not overcooked at all.
It is recommended and you should not forget to plan some shopping in the deli too.

Where do I start. The store with the meats and cheeses? AMAZING! We stocked up to have at our villa. Great selection to choose from and given our very limited Italian and their limited English, it made for a fun experience with lots of laughing.
We arrived at 7:30 just as the store was closing for the night and the restaurant openjng for dinner. With no reservations, we wondered in and they were able to accommodate us. That said everyone else arrived as well so they went from zero to about 40 diners all at once! We settled in for a long dinner and it was a 3+ hour affair.
Now for the good stuff... food quality was worth the wait. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The menu has an english section to help with ordering as their English is very limited in the restaurant. But with some pointing and laughter all was good. The house Chianti is a Rufino. An excellent wine (4 of us drinking, we killed 2 litres).
Menu options are very good and arranged in typical italian fashion (by the course)

We got there at 3pm and as we tried to order something to eat they explained us that the kitchen was closed, in such rude way that we immediately felt like we where disturbing them. Then we ordered two panini with ham and even before serving us they advised us not to use the restaurant tables but we were only allowed to sit on a bench. Food was noy that good and quite expensive in comparison to other places. Personally I will avoid this place in the future.

This is a great place to buy authentic fresh Italian food, either meat, cheeses, wine etc to take home . There's also a great little restaurant here too. The staff are very friendly and are more than happy to help translate the menu and recommend things to try . We had a lovely family lunch here on our last day but wished we had discovered it sooner.

We were brought there by local friends for a quick lunch. Brilliant food: simple but fresh and tasty products. At last, excellent cherry tomatoes, tasty mozzarella, good bread, properly grilled artichokes and a plate of pecorinos at 3 different stages of maturity. Good size portions, very reasonable prices and nice and quick service. What more can you ask for?
Very highly recommended.
