We enjoyed a fantastic week at this hotel, and I can highly recommend it. The service and food are really fantastic, and we were sad to leave at the end. The hotel staff are really kind and helpful, without ever getting in the way.
The hotel is simple, but clean and well equipped, with wonderful views of the bay from the solarium. They are fairly well-located, but also operate a shuttle bus which means you can get around more easily. When you book, the hotel can organise a transfer for you from Naples airport, which makes the island-hopping fairly painless.
I would say the thing that makes this hotel unique is the fantastic service and food at such a reasonable price. Dinner is served at 8pm every night, and is always varied and delicious. The hotel owner genuinely cares that everyone gets plenty of food and that it's something they enjoy. Afterwards you can lounge about outside with your coffee and digestivi... they have a local drink called 'Rucolino' that I suggest you try (as well as Limoncello), although be careful as they are generous with the measures :) I thought it might get a bit dull eating at the hotel, but in fact it ended up being the thing I looked forward to most every day. I would also recommend the local red wine 'Per'e Palummo' - if you don't drink all the bottle they just save it until the next day for you.
If you want to take a day-trip to the Amalfi coast, Procida, Capri or Pompei, there are boat trips and the hotel will help you arrange this and drop you off at the port - it's worth checking up front if you're interested, as the trips only operate on certain days of the week. The hotel can also arrange a discount for some boat trips. We also saw flying fish and dolphins on one of our trips on the way to Amalfi - fantastic!
There are also a number of gardens you can visit - again, it's worth checking as some are only open on particular days.
Ischia's main draw are it's thermal waters (it's a volcanic island). As well as having a large number of thermal pools and treatments, there are various spots on the beaches where the warm water enters, which makes for a very nice temperature if you fancy a swim. The staff can show you where to find these places, and recommend some good places for treatments (or lunch) nearby. The hotel itself has a lovely big thermal pool, and a sauna (you don't pay extra - it's included).
If you want to book, you just send the hotel and email and they arrange it that way. As to when to go, I think spring / autumn is perfect as we were there at the start of October and it was still really quite warm.
If you want to experience genuine Italian hospitality and local cuisine at a good price, then this hotel is perfect.
