The oyster appetizer was delicious. Lightly breaded so as to enjoy the oyster taste. Also had grouper which was grilled to perfection. Scallops were also very tender and good quality. Coconut shrimp was good . It is casual dining. Great place for seafood.
Clare and Don's Beach Shack is a very casual restaurant with decor makes you feel like you are at the beach, minus the sand and water. Menu is large with a good variety of options. They are known for their crab cakes, which are excellent. Our group ordered crab cakes, fried pickles, fish tacos and beer battered fish and chips. Portions were large and food was very good. Service was s bit slow, but worth the wait.
Nestled and tucked away in Falls Church is Clare and Don's Beach Shack. They offer live small band & reggae flare music on weekends. One can easily tell upon approach that if you have an urge to feel like you are in Key West or Floridian beach, their decore of endless flip-flops, license plates, and plastic seating will make you feel right at home. Their bar menu of specialty drinks is not bad, but the drink size themselves are standard old-fashion glass size. The one my guest ordered came with a slice of brown pineapple attached which wasn't too attractive. They have a decent assortment of domestic and international beers; but alas the one I wanted to try (Moo Brown Stout) was out when I ordered it. I ordered coconut fried shrimp, which were generous and large; not bad. My daughter ordered a Po-Boor fried oyster sandwich which was ok until she crunched down on oyster shells in 1/4 of the sandwich that almost broke her tooth. Their small crinkle fries that accompany are very good and their slaw was tasty. Pricing is average to high for food, a bit more of bar drinks. On the plus side, they do offer many gluten-free and vegetarian options. If one can put up with families and crying small children, as well as overlooking the little details mentioned above that make a difference in customers wanting to return; then this quazi-beach shack in downtown Falls Church could be your easy escape to Florida if you close your eyes & ears.
Mom, my niece, Barry and decided to try this place after seeing it by the roadside last evening. Barry tried the fried clams, I tried the seafood chowder and crab cake, mom the fish and chips and my niece the fish tacos. We left full and thinking that we' d be back to try the the menu out again. Nice people, music, and pet friendly!
