“An OK place to stay for a night”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2012

This is definitely an older facility, and you can tell. There were cracks in the bathroom floor and walls, but I really wasn't concerned about that. The room was clean, and the staff friendly. Breakfast in the resto there was a bit pricey, so we ate elsewhere. The location is very convenient to the college and to downtown CV. The reason we stayed was to see a concert at the Jefferson Theater, a mere 2 miles away. Overall, not too bad, but if you are a bit picky, I'd go elsewhere!

Room Tip: Away from the highway and busy road next to the hotel!

My husband had a conference near Charlottesville for the weekend. My son and I decided to tag along to visit Monticello. The location of the hotel is very convenient for Monticello, UVA and the Downtown Mall area. The room was clean. Had a few issues with the facility. The parking lot was very dark. There were a few lights but they didn't cover a lot of area. Many spaces were totally dark. The beds in our room were doubles. We are used to sleeping in a queen and you wouldn't think there would be that much difference for 2 nights but there was. Between the bed and the heater I didn't sleep well at all. The bathroom had no fan. I've never understood hotel bathrooms without a fan. It seems like such an essential item. The refrigerator in our room did not cool at all even after adjusting the temperature dial. The worst thing was that on Saturday night we returned to the hotel to find the entire hallway on the 3rd floor smelling of garbage. It still smelled that way the next morning when we left. I can't say that I would stay here again or recommend it to someone else.

Stayed here while in town for a concert at the Jefferson. They had a package deal with the theatre where I got a lower rate than I found anywhere else, better cancellation policy, AND it included taxi rides to and from the show. Room was very clean and spacious, king bed was super comfortable (good thing we didn't have to check out until noon!), and the staff was all very nice and helpful. Would definitely stay there again even if cab rides were not included, as the only places walking distance to downtown are like twice the price.

Stayed here two nights while attending concerts downtown. Worked fine for me but my wife wouldn't have liked it. Convenient to downtown. Hotel room interior recently updated with flat screen TVs, furnishings, etc. Free wireless internet but unreliable. Beds were plush and comfortable. Bathroom in dire need of renovation.. door hardware falling off, bath water slow to drain, loud and s-l-o-w toilet. Don't get a room near the elevator- low hum audible during each movement, but didn't bother me much as I'm out like a light regardless. Lobby coffee burned.. go out for coffee or make it in your room. Didn't eat breakfast at the hotel, as the menu looked overpriced and uninteresting. Parking lot near main door well lit but fills up before midnight, forcing you to park on the darker side or rear of building.

Room Tip: Stay on side away from highway and elevator

We were taking a tour of the University of Virginia, and at the end of the day were looking for a nice hotel before getting up and heading home in the morning. We used the GPS to find the closest Holiday Inn. Unfortunately, the Holiday Inn-University directions took us to a park in town. So we plugged in Holiday Inn, Monticello, thinking it would be fun to do a driveby of Jefferson's home before heading out. The hotel was on the outskirts of town. We got one room with two double beds. It was very nice, as most Holiday Inns are. Flat screen TV, comfy beds, nice, roomy bathroom, wifi. We had a drink in the bar, which was empty except for us, and dinner in the restaurant, which was empty except for us. Could have been the season -- early January -- or the off-the-beaten-path location. But the servers and the front desk folks were very pleasant, so we enjoyed our brief stay.

Here's a tip. You can't "drive by" Monticello. Much like Disney World, you have to park in a lot and buy an expensive ticket and shuttle up to the house, even if you have no desire to go inside and look around. We didn't park.
