My husband and I spent four nights at the Trapp Family Lodge and were quite pleased. There are miles and miles of cross country ski trails on the Trapp property - and those all connect to many more! My husband said the trails were among the best he has ever skied on. And we enjoyed the lodge a great deal - our room included a door out to a patio and the ski trails; inside our room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The bathroom had a large soaker tub and plenty of space. There were three places to eat (a restaurant and lounge in the lodge and a deli/brewery just down the street.) And Stowe Village and its restaurants and shops are just a few miles away. The lodge also has a new fitness center (with a large pool, large hot tub, gym, play space for children, space for massages, a climbing wall, and more!) Classes were offered daily at the lodge, including yoga, wine-tasting, baking, painting - something for everyone. There is a small charge for the classes. I wanted to emphasize how great the staff was at the lodge - everyone, from the man who carried our luggage to the man who stocked the wood in the (numerous) fire places on the grounds, to the people who cleaned our rooms - were all warm and very helpful. They added a lot to our stay! If I had any quibbles about the Trapp Family Lodge it would be that we would have preferred to have been able to lower the temperature in the room while we slept (the thermostat only allows a range of between 65 and 69 degrees Fahrenheit.) We were too warm, even with the windows open (and open windows caused the heat to pump out even more...) The other suggestion I have for the lodge is for a sidewalk leading from the lodge to the deli/brewery. While not heavily-trafficked, it did not feel especially safe to walk on the road. These quibbles are small, however, and overall we really enjoyed our stay.

We had a spectacular long weekend at the von Trapp Lodge in Stowe. The Lodge was quaint, old enough to be consistent with the history of Trapp family; yet, all the daily essentials (including bathroom, heating, large screen tv) were very modern and functioned well. We loved hanging out in one facility which had on the property a great restaurant, bar, and brewery. There are neat rooms for reading and game playing, and roaring fire places to enhance the cozy feel of the place. Spending an evening by the open fire in the bar drinking the family's home brew, listening to the spectacular tunes of John Cassell, the "piano man" was a real treat. The hallway walls were covered with photos of the real Trapp family as well as lots of Sound of Music memorabilia. This is still very much a family enterprise. We met Maria's son Sam who helped with our cross country skis..and by the way, this is paradise for a cross country skier, with miles of groomed trails....even a snow maker for cross country trails which is unheard of elsewhere.

The Trapp Family Lodge is my new favorite vacation spot. It's charming and everyone here is super friendly. The Austria Suite was beautiful, definitely has been updated. Everywhere here has an Austrian vibe---the breakfast has their own maple syrup that Sam Von Trapp helps to tap from their forest every year! it's AMAZING. Def a great place to learn to cross country ski, the snow shoe trip to the cabin was wonderful too. A very fun outdoorsy resort with a lot of charm and history---the history tour is $15 but worth it, always given by a direct descendant of the original von Trapps. Check out the brewery, very good lagers!

Room Tip: Ski in/Ski out for cross country skiers, not downhill

I travel to Vermont for business and instead of staying at a hotel beside the highway, I drive the 10 miles to paradise, The Trapp Family Lodge. Not only is it the most relaxing, but has great food, staff and most of all ski trails, that are wonderful anytime of the year. Also, if you love the Sound of Music, the walls are filled with framed Playbills, posters and photos to add to this lovely place.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great, but if you can afford a suite, go for it and have the bellman light the fir...

My Husband and I did a last minute exchange with Interval Int'l to the Trapp Family Lodge for our Anniverssary. We had been there 19 years before and i had learned how to Ski at Stowe.
I have to say the Main Building is nice but the guest houses are not a 5 star. they are stock in the 80's. The furniture except for the couch i am sure is still the same.
The outside of the units is dagerous if your coming home after dark there is not very good lighting. When it rained and turned to ICE we had to sand ourselves otherwise no services.
We did call twice with problems in the unit once the TV and they came very quickly the other time a smoke detector that kept going off for no reson again service was quick.
The veiws are amazing and if you want a quite time then go here but do not expect a 5 Star at the Guest houses.
We did have a wonderful week even with almost killing ourselves in the dark as we skated on the ice out side or builiding !!!!lol
