We stayed for one night in late September and we were very happy with our hotel choice. It's newly built, and rustic in style, very tasteful. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, check in was smooth. The hotel looks out onto the hills, beautiful but a parking lot in between. But still a beautiful view. Room was spacious, bed super comfy, nice bath too. Around the hotel is simply beautiful, more views of the majestic hills, historic statues, buildings, lovely place to walk about. We had dinner on the patio....food was awesome, locally sourced. Great outdoor fireplace which added romance and took the chill off. Breakfast was delicious also, food made made with love and local ingredients, which is rare these days. All in all would highly recommend.

My wife and I stayed here in late Dec. 2016. It is a new hotel (1 year old). We were satisfied with everything except the room heating. Before I discuss that, I want to say that we were quite happy with the venue, the customer service and the dining (we had breakfast here but had dinner in town). It is very welcoming - especially to folks with pets (there were a lot of guests with dogs).
As I said this is a new hotel so all technology should be up to date. But they have a strange in-room heating system. We stayed in winter so we turned up the heat when we arrived. When it started to get warm I adjusted the thermostat to a lower temp, but instead of just turning the heat off until it reached the lower temp, it turned on the air conditioning to drop temp. This was really uncomfortable. In the evening I was trying to sit in a chair and read a book but the cold air regularly turning on forced me to go to bed and pull up the covers. I did advise Mgmt and suggested they have their HVAC engineer look at the system.
We used a Travelzoo discount for our stay which made it quite affordable.

Room Tip: This hotel not only accepts pets, but very much encourages guests with pets (esp. dogs)

Dear Guest,

Thank you for staying with us at Kimpton Taconic Hotel. We sincerely appreciate that you have taken the time to share your experience with us and other TripAdvisor followers. We are thrilled to hear how much you enjoyed the hotel, the Copper Grouse Restaurant and the customer service our team provided.

We are sorry to hear that the heating of your room was not what it should have been. We do have the most state of the art equipment, being a new hotel, and the majority of the time it works the way it was designed. On occasion, like any new equipment, there are issues. I will share this with our Engineering team as well and we will keep a close eye on it.

Thank you again for staying with us and we look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Warmest Regards,

John Burnham

I've just returned home from a 5-night-6-day stay at The Taconic Hotel. I was traveling with 2 other friends, so we had a total of 3 separate rooms, #'s 203, 204 & 206. All of us LOVED it. The entire hotel is tastefully decorated, with Audubon prints of woodland birds and animals, and enlarged, vintage photos of the Manchester area/people from a by-gone era. The whole place is immaculate, and brand new. And, even though guests are allowed to bring their dogs, there were no dog stains, odors or dog hair anywhere in the hotel. Outside, there are small areas to walk your dog, with "puppy stations" for cleaning up after them (bags and lidded waste bins). Clean & convenient. When I go on vacation, one of my splurges is room service. I had breakfast in bed every day. Selections included the usual choices, eggs, bacon, sausage, etc., but they also had french toast w/banana slices, roasted pecans, and hot maple syrup; a bagel w/veggie cream cheese, capers, smoked salmon and fresh lemon slices. Each time, we ordered something different for breakfast and were never disappointed. Note: our orders always arrived exactly on time, and the service was friendly and non-intrusive. The Valet Service was very efficient and polite. I was so grateful for it after a long drive to VT. Check-in was quick, easy and very welcoming, one of the staff members even greeted my dog with a treat. The only negative experience we had was the hotel's restaurant. We found the menu strange (blue cheese fondue? Doesn't sound appealing...) and overly fussy. The meals were attractive to the eye, but lacking in taste. The "crispy duck" was raw and had to be returned to the kitchen, inedible. They've stopped offering lunch (at least in the winter), so if you arrive before dinnertime, you're out of luck. However, there's a fully stocked, refrigerated, honor bar in each guest room with lots of snacks, very handy. The entire staff, from front desk, to housekeeping, to waiters, was well-trained, friendly and very accommodating. We've traveled all over the world, and we were VERY impressed with The Taconic Hotel. Can't wait to come back in the summer! Bravo to Kimpton!!

Room Tip: All rooms are great. Mine (# 206) had a gas fireplace, operated by remote control. Sooo nice! And the windows can be opened for fresh air.

Dear Guest,

Thank you and your friends (both two legged and four legged) for staying with us at Kimpton Taconic Hotel and for five nights to boot! Your description of the hotel and your experience is very thorough, fair and very much appreciated. I sincerely apologize for the couple of hiccups in the Copper Grouse Restaurant and that the menu seemed unusual or fussy to you. We always welcome constructive feedback and I will forward this on to the culinary team. It is great to hear that everything else went so well and that you and your friends experienced what the team works so hard to provide everyday... a clean, comfortable, warm and welcoming environment.

We look forward to seeing you this summer. Until then...Have a Safe and Happy New Year.

Warmest Regards,

I can't say enough good things about this idyllic property. Each and every staff person - whether it be the front desk staff, housekeeping or servers in the restaurant - was super friendly, helpful and welcoming to both us and our 65 pound dog. The hotel is just about a year old so it is very bright, modern and clean, yet rustic and warm. Our room (a king studio suite) was a very nice size, and they had a a dog bed, bowls and treats waiting in the room for our fur baby -- such a nice touch. We had one meal in the restaurant (breakfast) which was good, and also drinks at the bar each night which had a low-key vibe. We really enjoyed our stay at the Taconic, and will definitely be back.
