Dorset Inn is a superb location to have a meal .... several rooms (& outside veranda) available to be in whether you go for brunch, lunch, tavern fare, gourmet dinning.
An old bldg well maintained and kept. Comfy sitting rooms.
(Right at the corner of Rte 30
& the Dorset Green.)

Came for lunch/brunch; sat on the closed-in porch. First, was surprised with their decor; very calming atmosphere. Second, was the menu; both liquid and meal selections were interesting - so hard to decide. Third, the presentation was engaging so that you wanted to start eating. Fourth, the meals (each of them) was tasty and satisfying.
Chefs omelette with side salad was one. ((Had to ask for (order) toast and coffee)). Eggs Benedict (had to ask for without sauce). Sandwich (Rueben with fries). Hash with poached eggs.

We had lot of conversation so didn't mind the slow-slow service. The meal and ambience also made up for this. In Inns, this pace of service the norm; so be aware and appreciate if you find an exception.

Full bar in their taverns.
Desert menu looked interesting too.

I recommend a reservation. Food was good but nothing exceptional. I hear their brunch is great. We couldn't get into their more casual venue down the road because there was a wedding there, we were dressed a bit too casual for the Dorset. They sat us with no hesitation, but I was a bit self-conscient about out parties casual attire.

Great service. Went alone and they made me feel completely at ease without being annoying. Food and wine delicious. Authentic Vermont setting. Gracious period surroundings.

A lovely spot for a quiet lunch in the center of Dorset. The tavern is cozy and our Susan was friendly and quick with our lunch order. One of us had a smoked turkey sandwich on a very fresh marble rye bread and the other had a strawberry spinach salad....the spinach was wilted and the amount of dressing was over the top, but when you are hungry sending a dish back is difficult. Wish I had. I was surprised for the price that the salad was a starter size and not served with bread or a roll. Our server was kind enough to bring some bread when I asked. Not sure if we would go back.

Last minute drop in and it couldn't have been more comfortable and delicious. Cron crab fritters were delicious and the burger was truly perfect.
