It had been a while since we visited the Claim Jumper. It's been a favorite of our out-of-town guests and that's what took us back. It was a fantastic dining experience at a very reasonable price.

The Claim Jumper has a long history in our area, going back to 1973 when it opened in Park City. Since then the restaurant expanded to a Provo Canyon location (since closed), Heber City and St. George. Sadly, the Park City location closed some years ago.

The menu is exactly the same, centered around beef with the baseball steak still the favorite ($27). I opted for the 12 oz prime rib ($21.95) which was delicious and seemingly a lot more than 12 oz. Around the table we had sirloin, Utah trout and another prime - all perfectly prepared.

Comparable steaks in Park City would be quite a bit more. This is well worth the trip to Heber.

Atmosphere and service were also great. We were seated immediately, quick drink orders, with salad and meals coming out quickly. Great experience and sorry it took guests to drag us back there.

We went to check this place out and almost didn't go in. The menu didn't have a lot of choices and the prices seemed a little high. But we decided to give it a try anyway. We had a great experience and it was worth every penny! I had the prime rib and my wife got the burger off the kids menu (which wasn't what I would call kids sized). The complimentary bread was soft, warm and delicious. The house vinagarette dressing was absolutely spectacular, seriously the best I've ever had. There were very few people there, but I enjoyed the well decorated western theme of the place. We had very professional and attentive service. The prime rib was very good quality, tender and juicy. Better than any I've had at Ruby River. I got the biggest prime rib, which was a lot of meat for one person! I am shocked to see the other reviews, perhaps things have improved?

I just returned from a much needed vacation to Utah. Like any "good" traveler I tried to locate places to eat, things to do, etc. online before going. As I was going to be staying with a friend in Heber City I wanted to be able to enjoy places I didn't have back home in Texas. I found the Claim Jumper online and was frankly disappointed at the reviews it had gotten. However, having been in the restaurant business for oodles of years I knew that one is apt to write a negative review of their experiences as opposed to a positive one. On my last night in Heber I buckled to the thoughts of a really nice meal and we took the plunge despite the negative reviews. We arrived at 6 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon. The service was not only fast, but extremely friendly and very oriented to my wants and needs. My steak was cooked to perfection. Orders I had asked to be put on the side were done so. The food was plentiful and I was unable to finish my entire meal. I have to admit I'm not used to paying such a price for a steak, but it truly was "this close" to being worth the price. We were seated in a pretty secluded spot, or so I thought, but a family was seated right next to us with loud and boisterous kids. I'm not sure if they have an area that they could just put couples, but if they are reading this review, maybe they can take this as a suggestion that some people would prefer not to be seated with a loud group in an establishment such as that. I wanted a nice time with my friend, a nice meal, which for the most part I got. Could have been much nicer without the squalling, running around, loud children. Overall, however, I would have to rate this experience as pretty darn excellent! I am hoping to return to Heber sometime in the future for another visit and I will most definitely make the Claim Jumper a must return on my list!
