I was fortunate enough to get a picture with Jack when he was still alive, and now our daughter's had a chance to go with us. The museum is open weekends, and curated by Jack's widow these days. Unfortunately, the Remington building is no longer accessible (family only since Jack's passing), but I'll k eep bringing our kiddo as long as the town's open :)

We were looking for a side trip with friends and their kids to learn about Texas history in a fun manner. Finding a number to call for information was not easy! We ended up calling the "hotel" next to the Pioneer Town. They said that the town and museum were open.

When we arrived, the only thing open was the game room/ice cream parlor. The museum had a sign that the owner (only employee?) was out for surgery. Why the hotel did not know that is a big question.

The Pioneer Town is not a great place to visit. The place is an assemblage of buildings designed to "look" old/historic. They have not done well in the effort. The only two buildings of any interest are the bottle house and the cabin. The bottle house is exactly that--made with mortar and bottles. It is interesting. The cabin is also a nice structure, but nothing out of the ordinary.

The kids enjoyed seeing the "town" and that was all that was really important! This will not be on our list of "things to do in Wimberly!" Wimberly is a great little historic town with some good places to eat. Some shopping and Lions Day on the first Saturday of each month. There is not a lot to do, but it is a decent side trip that our friends enjoyed.

my kids and I stayed at the 7A ranch for years and we never got tired of going into the museum. I love to see pioneer town at night also......you have to do both!

I guess I'm just not much of a history buff. It was worth the 20 min we spent but the best was just inside the door.. Jackalobe

We found out right before we went in the museum that Jack Glover had passed away 2 weeks before our visit. From the reviews I had read, he was the reason why this was a popular place to visit. He made the history and artifacts come alive. There was only a lady sitting behind the counter and we looked at everything by ourselves. It was ok, nothing to write home about. Wish we had been able to meet Jack Glover.
