I almost hate to share this review! We found 9E about 13 years ago and it's been a favorite ever since. We never grow tired of a weekend at 9E...it's a favorite "surprise" from my husband; or to him from me! We always stay at the same cabin...Eagles Nest. We have stayed at one other, but Eagles Nest was the first and it is "home to us"....OK about the place! 9E is operational ranch. It has been in the owners family for years. At one time the ranch encompassed over 1500 acres of land, there is still plenty left to roam about today. Just 10 or so miles from Bastrop and Smithsville, there is always something to do on the weekend if you choose to leave the ranch. Smithsville has antique shops and some dining, Bastrop always has a "festival" or something, and tons of dining. Best bet? Spend the day doing nothing but enjoying the country side, hike the pastures if you like. Our favorite time is spring when the Blue Bonnets a blooming. The pastures are ablaze in blue with a splatter of Indian Paint Brush! Favorite thing to do at the ranch? Leave Eagle's Nest...walk west toward the gazebo ( perfect for sunsets by the way) turn left and go half way down the hill, spread a blanket, and lie quietly under the pines while watching puffy clouds in a clear blue Texas sky, you may just find yourself napping. Now the stuff you really want to know....Breakfast used to be served and it was to die for! Now Joan (one of the owners) leaves muffins for your morning, which are delicious as well. Sometimes you find cookies, and fresh fruit, or other delights...but whatever they add to the cabin, is always a treat! The cabins are spotlessly clean, the beds are comfy, the linins fresh and the softest sheets in Texas ( I think).
At Eagle's Nest, you feel like you are in your own world, it's at the end of the road so you generally see no one. The sitting area of the cabin has 3 sides of windows so you have a 180 view from the sitting area. What a way to start the day! Coffee, Joan's muffins (or some bootleg kolaches from Hruska's ...it's on the way from Houston) and a view that only God could create!
It's quite, it's peaceful, it's a place to push pause, relax and recharge. Be sure to watch sunset!

Room Tip: Eagle's Nest first then try the others

Valentines weekend my wife the kids and i spend two nights at the Daisy cabin. It was an amazing experience for us. The kids loved walking around the ranch. They saw the pond and the longhorns and they were amaze. We BBQ and we had some friends over to eat we were very loud and no one told us anything. We definitely are going to be back. The place has everything you need from washer and dryer to grills. Ken and Joan thank you very much again. The muffins were awesome.

My husband and I spent Valentine's Weekend at the 9E Ranch. It was a perfect weekend getaway to say the least! The cabin we stayed in was cozy and inviting. We got to do some stargazing from the cabin both nights and wow what a show! The owners, Kent and Joan, invited us to join them and their friends for a fun food-sharing "soirée" and small town concert in town to listen to Terry Lynn Moore. Fantastic singer if you ever get a chance. We walked around part of their property (300+ acres is a bit much) and enjoyed the serenity of the day; saw many Longhorns, miniature horses and donkeys and HEARD some wild turkeys...? This is a perfect getaway from work, computers, phones, etc. There is cell phone service so it's not TOTALLY a wasteland ;-). You are on your own to do whatever you wish and dine in or go out for meals however they will provide some fruit, muffins and coffee for your stay. You are very close to the town itself and to grocery stores. We liked the privacy of the place...not on top of one another as they only have 4-5 cabins to utilize and they are spaced far enough away to relax and not worry about any noise or intrusions. The bed was a bit small but very comfortable. We will recommend this to our friends for sure!

Sandy and I loved our stay in the Eagle's Nest Cabin on top of the hill at 9E Ranch Cabins. Was a perfect getaway weekend for us October 23-25, 2015. We were well pleased when we first approached the cabin on the outside. We got inside the cabin, no doubt, we selected the perfect place to spend the weekend getaway whether rain or sunshine. The cabin inside was very comfortable, décor was awesome to the paintings by Joan Bohls. The Bohls left us homemade muffins and fresh yard eggs in the refrigerator for breakfast. We relaxed in the living room with the ability to look out the east, west, and north full windows. We visited Smithville and Bastrop Main Streets, both 10 miles away from the cabin. On our last day, we visited Kent and Joan Bohls, very warm, very friendly and down home couple. On our last day before check out, we took a hike around the property, ran into miniature donkeys, miniature horses, white tail deer, rabbits, found the longhorns, horses, and the scenery with fresh air was awesome. Sandy and I will make future plans to stay at the Eagle's Nest-9E Ranch Cabins and time with the Bohls.

I agree with Bloated Belly on the review from back on April 4th of 2011. Our idea of a Bed & Breakfast is so that when we check in the host will let us know what time is the gathering for breakfast and the agenda for stay of the trip. I knew that the place was secluded and wanted to get away from the city life and it was that, beautiful place.
The main thing that bothered us was the 1/2 of a deal that we got for Valentine's day with my wife of 27 years. We stayed at the Daisy cottage I wish I would have read that review before booking ours.
The reason for the title is that we are not about to pay (what we paid ) for muffins that are "don't know how old" so we had to go to town approx. 9 miles away to eat.
This place is for trucks or high SUVs not for low to the ground cars.
