We decided to have our anniversary (#43) dinner at Merlion. We have dined at Merlion before and decided to have another trip. My wife likes Thai food a lot and so do I. This is during Houston Restaurant Week (actually 5 weeks) so there was a nice fixed price menu. We had made a reservation and told them it was an anniversary dinner; they had prepared a table with rose petals. That was nice.
Our original intention was to linger in the bar/lounge for a while, but it was very small and packed with customers. You can only get happy hour prices at the bar. They made space for us on a couch, but that was very uncomfortable. Finally, they decided that we could take the drinks to our table. This was the only fly in the ointment. It would be to their advantage to offer happy hour drink prices in the dining room.
Our dinner was very good. There is not much to say about the food except it was excellent. The only shortcoming was that the shrimp Satay Kabobs were quite overcooked. The shrimp were pretty rubbery. So we enjoyed our dinner and dessert. As we were about to leave, they presented us with a bottle of champagne. Nice.
We don't dine out very much. For sure we will return to Merlion on our next anniversary. We have always enjoyed it.
A little pricey but super fresh and tasty food is wonderful and the bartender makes a good martini. I have eaten here at least 6 times and have never had anything that was not good.
My husband and I love this restaurant so much that anytime we are able to have a date night we think about going to a different restaurant, but always end up going to Merlion. It is incredible: the atmosphere is lovely, the wait staff is very friendly and attentive, and most importantly the food is amazing!
When my husband called to make reservation he was asked if it was for a special occasion, which it was, our 19th anniversary. When we were escorted to our table there was lovely glittery confetti on it. Shortly, a server came over with a fresh rose and placed the petals artfully on the table. We were given a delicious Nothing Bundt cake for dessert and as we left they gave us a bottle of bubbly. In short, they helped make this a very special evening and the food was very tasty -- love their corn fritters.
