We have now stayed in every Spring Hotel on the island.
I like the Arona Gran (good food, good service, but too far away from anything) but was not impressed by the Bitaccora, (large creepy insects, crap food, children showing off on the dance floor with laughing, adoring parents) so we thought we would try the Hotel Vulcano this time.
Didn't get off to a good start when on arrival for pick up, tired and hungry after a five hour flight - the Viajes Urbis driver did not recognise the hotel we were staying in. "Vuwlcannah? " We nodded....yes, the Hotel Vulcano. " No, I do not know Vuwlcanah? Mi no comprende." Then a light went off.....Ah! You means El VOOOLCANO!" That's what I said! We arrived at midnight, and because we had missed a meal, we got a stamp on our room key which gave us a free poolside meal to use at our leisure. Our room was lovely; slightly old fashioned like all of the Spring Hotels rooms....but really spacious and clean and with a massive balcony (we were on the ground floor, Room 167) Huge flat screen telly, hubby settled down to watch a repeat of some ITV2 sport thing, I wobbled off to try the WiFi. Didn't work in the lobby, but a kind man told me to try the bar area where I got a great connection - on 'Default' don't even attempt the 'Free Mundo'. After emailing home and checking facebook I retired for the night, and found a very comfortable bed, was out like a light, felt like being at home. Woke the next morning to that lovely Tenerife ambiance...opened the curtains... 8am sunshine....ahh, this is what we want! On with the short skirt I would not be seen dead in at home and off down to brekkie - food was wonderful on the first day - breakfast was superb. Same at night; grilled prawns, whole side of salmon, huge selection of lovely food. The salad was fresh, and the dessert selection was very good. Only complaints food wise throughout the whole holiday would be that almost every chicken dish smells and tastes like my mothers Boxing day kitchen - ie, poultry that has been boiled to hell and back, for soup. Must be a Spanish thing, cos loads of peeps were tucking in like it was their last meal. Boak. After a week, the food tends to be a bit 'samey' (you would kill for a quick Marks and Sparks ready meal, or a Maccy D) but better than a lot of hotels I have experienced. I noticed there were NO chocolate hob nobs, or bits and pieces with the icecream/desert like there used to be. And, no tea pots at breakfast - make it in the cup. They seem to be making cut backs... no maple syrup whippy cream pancakes at breakfast either! How very dare they. As for the entertainment: The hotel is FULL of very old people who seem to live for getting their pale blue stay press polyester trousers on and showing off their 'dancing' of an evening (if you could call it 'dancing'...'shuffling very quickly' comes to mind) we had a better laugh watching their antics than at the 'real' entertainment. Just wish the Bar staff found it all so funny - they never cracked a smile and were totally miserable - especially the big guy who looks like Joe Calzage, and his two female blonde 'bouncers' (one hair up with glasses, one hair down, black bra under white blouse. Observant? Moi?) Just remember the old joke...don't put your drink down at the bar, or someone WILL drop their false teeth in it.
To conclude: my hubbie loves Spring Hotels because of the price, the comfy beds and the good food. I concur....BUT, I did go look at other hotels in the area that came up for a similar price when we booked (H10, Villa Cortez, Mare Nostrum etc) and, after two years and four holidays in Spring Hoteles, I think we will try something else for our next week in May.
