This was our first visit to the Vulcano, which came recommended by friends. The best thing about this hotel is its location, only a short walk from the beach and from the various attractions of the east end of Las Americas.

We stayed in a superior room with a pool view, and our balcony got the sun from around 2.30 in the afternoon onwards. The room was OK, nothing special but clean. The noise from the evening entertainment could have been annoying for anyone looking for a quiet early night.

The pool area was the biggest let down, in our view. There are two pools, one heated to 28 degrees and one heated to 20 degrees - guess which one was warmer? - the smaller one! As a result, everyone crammed into that one, leaving the lovely bigger pool virtually unused. Another poor feature of this area is the "bike shed" arrangement of fixed position sun shades, which mean that you have to move your sun bed to get any shade - not popular as the beds are laid out in regimented rows, and any movement of a bed means traffic flow is seriously disrupted. We didn't like this area, and as a result spent most of the time away from the hotel.

Food was fairly ordinary, but very efficiently presented, considering that almost everyone turned up for dinner at 6.30 (we saw a queue on our first night). The menu did vary, but breakfast was probably the most enjoyable meal, with a wide range of fruit and cereal options, in addition to the usual hot service of sausages and omelettes. Service was good, with several nice and friendly members of staff.

There was entertainment every evening, with a lounge singer followed by the top of the bill - a tribute band or a comedian or speciality act such as dancers or magicians. Again, OK but nothing special. During the day, the entertainment staff organised a range of activities such as aqua gym, archery, table tennis etc. Cant say much about these as we were never around to try them out.

The Vulcano is the sort of place that clearly appeals to many, as there is a high percentage of repeat visitors. It is not particulary child friendly (try the Bitacora for a family holiday, we were told) and the lifts are very heavily used by the mainly elderly clientele. We don't wish to be too critical, as all of this is evident from other reviews. All in all, a good hotel for a certain customer profile, and it seems to work. Not sure if we'll go back, though. If you do go, we recommend visiting the Hole in the Wall irish music pub around the corner, for an excellent night's entertainment.

Room Tip: Ask for a south facing room if you want to sun bathe on your balcony.

Dear Sir,

Thank you very much for taking the time to review your stay in our Hotel Vulcano.

In answer to your review regarding the “bike sheds” as our guests refer to them, they are there to help us maximize the little space that we do have.

After reading your review we understand the title, and although you liked certain things you are not too critical with the ones you dislike. We are sorry to hear the Hotel Vulcano did not appeal to your profile and understand your doubts about coming back again.

Best regards

My husband and I have just returned from a week long stay at the Vulcano. We had previously stayed several years ago and due to an illness we needed a week of sun and rest to recover. We had a pool view superior room which was both spacious and clean with a patio overlooking the pool. I am sure in the summer this would be wonderful as it would catch the afternoon sun. We did not worry about the lack of sun on the patio as the hotel was fairly quiet and there were always plenty of sun beds. Sadly, as in a lot of hotels there were several sad people getting up at 7.30 and before to place towels on sunbeds especially on the higher terrace area. It is a shame these people then do not use them til mid afternoon. The hotel has a notice saying towels will be removed but this did not happen. So probably in peak season this would cause a problem. The food in the restaurant was simple but on the whole well cooked and a good selection. The waiting staff were pleasant and cheerful. As on other reviews there were a lot of repeat guests which does show how popular the hotel is and yes many are in their "silver years." For us the evening entertainment was a little old fashioned but we are not ballroom dancers and certainly the guests we saw were having a fab time.
All in all a great holiday excellent value for money and we will be joing the many return visitors for sure. Thank you to all the Hotel staff.

Room Tip: Superior pool view rooms in the main hotel are sunny all day. The hotel also has larger superior rooms and suites.

This was our third visit to the Vulcano and hopefully it wont be our last. The hotel is in a good location close to shops, bars and not too far from the beach. Food is very good and lots of variety, rooms comfortable and clean. Staff are friendly and helpful. My husband and myself both feel this hotel suits the more mature person with the sister hotel Bitacora more suited to families.

Have visited this hotel regularly as my husband is wheelchair bound, our holiday is made worry free as we know the accomodation will fit my hubands needs, the rooms we use are adapted for wheelchair users. In my case it is so nice to come to a hotel where service is still an important factor, not just in the main dining room but also in the pool restaurant you are treated as a respected and welcome guest, always greeted with a smile! The food is good and varied for all nationalities, and fresh fruit is always available at breakfast and evening meals. the maids who clean your rooms are quick and leave your room smelling sweetly! We return from this holiday always feeling relaxed with batteries recharged, ready to book the next visit.

This is an excellent hotel which i have enjoyed on many occasions. Superb location close to beach, bars and shops but quiet also. Food is varied and plentiful while service is friendly and efficient. Clean and good attention to detail. Pool area is not best feature but is good enough to enjoy with nice little bar/cafe. Fully recommend.

Room Tip: One side of hotel enjoys morning shade in pool view rooms while those directly overlooking pool enjoy all day sunshine.Ask and they do their best to accommodate.
