I'm really surprised by some of the reviews of this hotel, as I personally think it's fantastic. Due to its recent refurbishment it's like a brand new hotel. Everywhere is modern and spotlessly clean.
The rooms are fantastic. Lovely decor, two massive beds (pushed together), two seater couch and coffee table, absolutely loads of storage space and plenty of coat hangers, full length mirror, safe (with no extra charge or deposit) three electric sockets, a fridge, large fan over the beds, and air conditioning. And the bathroom was lovely too, large mirror on the wall plus a small magnified mirror, hair dryer and a massive walk in shower with plenty of pressure. I really couldn't have been happier with the room. I think when they refurbished the rooms they got it spot on.
We were on the first floor, directly opposite the lifts, and our balcony was above the lounge bar. It was sometimes a little noisy late at night, one night until 3am with people drinking at the bar, but that's just luck of the draw I guess, and it didn't bother us too much. It might concern people who like to go to bed early or family's with children though.
We only had one issue with our room and that was the plumbing in our bathroom, resulting in a leak all over the floor. We had to report it to reception three times but it was resolved that day. They possibly didn't understand how bad it was at first.
Two large bottles of water in the room on arrival, and you can request more at the bar.
Pool towels are free and no deposit needed.
With regards to reserving sun beds, if you want to be sat somewhere specific then you do need to get up very early, we noticed people reserving beds as early as 6.30am. The way the hotel is shaped means that half the pool area get sun in the morning (which seem to be reserved first) and half in the afternoon. But there are plenty of beds, and large areas of shade.
There are two bars, the pool bar, which is also where the entertainment is on at night, and a lounge bar. There are also two self service areas, one by the pool and one at the dining area. Where you can help yourself to soft drinks, hot drinks, water, wine on tap, and beer. They have Amstel lager and Cruzcampo radler both on draft.
There are Riu drinks menus on both bars so you know what is available. The cocktails are really nice, not very strong as they are pre-made in bottles and then simply blended with ice, but enjoyable nonetheless.
The food is fantastic. The best I've had in an all inclusive hotel. There's loads to choose from at every meal time and it's always nice and fresh. Everything you could wish for at breakfast, hot and cold, eggs cooked every way possible, bacon, pastries, pancakes, cereal, fruit, cold meats and cheese, salad etc. And then at lunch and tea time there is always a very extensive salad bar, three different pasta dishes, about five different pizzas, garlic bread, meat dishes, roasted meat joints, fish, vegetables and loads more. As well as fruit, cakes, ice cream and cheese and crackers.
There are also two themed restaurants, one Spanish and one Asian which you have to book a table with at reception for either a 7pm or 9pm sitting. We went to the Asian one, and the food was lovely. The only thing I would say is, having stayed at lots of all inclusive hotels, themed restaurants usually offer table service, where you choose your food from a menu, which is a nice change from eating at the buffet for the rest of the holiday. But these are self service buffets just like the main restaurant. No big deal but just something we noticed.
The beach is a five to ten minute walk away, and just straight down one road. The hotel also offers a free shuttle bus. It's a lovely beach, we really enjoyed two days down there.
For those wanting to go out at night there are restaurants, bars and clubs within walking distance. We really liked the Yumbo centre, which is short taxi ride away (about 3 euros).
We didn't watch much of the evening entertainment at the hotel, but some nights they have professional acts on and some nights the animation team put on a show themselves.
Our experience of all the staff, reception, animation, cleaning, restaurant and bar, was very positive. They were all friendly and work very hard.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel as we had a great holiday. Compared to other four star hotels i have stayed in this is definitely higher end.
