First, we knew based on reviews here that this hotel caters to a more senior clientele but we really wanted an all-inclusive hotel on the beach to take a break from winter. That said, it really does cater to a more senior clientele! Most of the time, we were the youngest by at least 30 years. But it really didn't affect us and we had a great trip. They allow you to reserve sun loungers which was a really nice touch. We didn't have to get up early to reserve a lounger; we could stroll out at our leisure and know it was waiting for us. The buffet meals were surprisingly good and drinks were part of our rate. We went full-board which was nice because we could grab ala carte lunch at the pool bar if we weren't feeling the buffet offering. The hotel rooms were spacious and comfy, if a bit dated. The added touch of no children was huge for us as we do not have children and enjoyed the peace and quiet of not having them around. Again, we had a wonderfully relaxing stay and would recommend it, particularly for the older crowd.

Stayed at the Hotel Costa Canaria for 10 days on a half-board basis as part of a Thomas Cook package holiday. Check-in at the reception was an easy process as the friendly staff described all the amenities that the hotel offered. We were assigned to room 133, a spacious freshly decorated twin room with a balcony that faced to the side of the building. There was a large shower room and more than ample storage and wardrobe space. A nice touch was that the interior of the wardrobes were illuminated. The room was kept spotlessly clean and there were regular changes of towels and bedding. Minor niggles were some street noise in the early morning as the room was close to the road at the front of the hotel and the fact that the shower screen did not always prevent water from reaching the floor of the bathroom.
The hotel is situated in the quiet resort of San Agustín and has direct access to the seafront promenade. The grounds of the hotel are beautifully laid out, quiet and peaceful, the background sounds being that of the many birds that nested in the palm trees. The system of allocating sun loungers meant that we know that we always had a lounger when we wanted one. We chose ours on the lawned area near the promenade. That way we were able to enjoy going to the beach as well as using the hotel pool. Of note, the pool was pleasantly heated unlike many we have previously experienced in other hotels in the Canaries.
Most of the shops, bars, cafes and restaurants in the resort are located in the large San Agustín Commercial Centre about a 15 minute walk away from the hotel. There are a few restaurants on the promenade that are a little closer to the hotel.
As we stayed on a half-board basis we had breakfast and dinner in the hotel's dining room. We found the quality of the catering to be very good with excellent choices of dishes at both meals. The food was generally well cooked and well presented both at the buffet as well as at the cook-to-order counters. Occasionally we felt the fish and meat dishes to be slightly overdone but still delicious. On some nights there were themed menus. We particularly liked the Mexican and Japanese nights. There was also live music that added to the relaxed ambience.
The layout and decor of the hotel and grounds are beautiful with some nice artistic and creative touches. The overall feel is one of peace, quiet and calm. The staff are consistently friendly, welcoming and helpful.
All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Costa Canaria and would certainly stay there again.

We have just returned from a week at this lovely hotel. The week got off to a great start when we were up-graded to a full sea view room on checking in.The room was large ,bright and nicely furnished with plenty of storage. The bathroom was also good with a great shower. All the staff here are friendly, hard working and helpful. We were staying on a half-board basis and the choices at breakfast and evening meal were extensive. There were also good gluten free options.
The hotel is tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. The pools and gardens are lovely too. There should also be no squabbling over sunbeds here as they have an unusual system in place. You pick a vacant sunbed, attach a label (that you are given on check-in) on the sunbed and it is yours for the duration of your holiday.
There is entertainment in the evenings and many activities during the day if you so wish ( archery, shooting, water aerobics, darts, boules, shuffle board, table tennis and mini-golf) There are also tennis courts and a state-of- the- art gym.
The Spa is a bonus with an indoor pool etc. and this is where you get the beach towels.
We had a great weeks holiday and it's definitely a hotel we will return to.

We stayed at the Costa Canaria in March and agree with all the positive reviews. We had a nice large room on the 4th floor with great sea views which was always kept clean. We could not fault the food as it was always hot and a large variety on offer. We used the spa every day which a great range of free facilities. The location of the hotel was good close to the main busses, not far to a shop to get a daily paper and not far from the shopping centre. Most of the staff were lovely and friendly just a few grumpy ones.
The first negative comment I would make is the sun bed system. When we arrived the majority of beds all were reserved the only ones left were not in a very good location for us as we love full sun all day and not packed in so you can't move. We noticed that most of the beds were left empty all day which was frustrating. On our third day we noticed two beds in a good location became available so we reserved them. From then on it was a great system being able to relax everyday without hunting for a sun bed in the mornings. Two beds close to us became vacant during our stay which were reserved by a couple. They were only staying for a week and used the sun beds for 2 afternoons during their stay. In the meantime new guests on their first day had little choice.
The second comment is on the drinks in the bar. Many drinks are premium and not local however we found early on that if you order a named drink to the waiter you got local. I ordered a Baileys and got their local equivalent. We decided to get our drinks direct from the bar even then you had to watch which bottle they used. On a few occasions asking for a named spirit they picked up the local spirit until you quickly pointed it out to them.
However overall we found this an excellent adult only hotel. We visit all the Canary Islands regularly and we found this hotel one of the best we have stayed in. We would definitely return to this hotel.
