Nice rooms, clean and nice spot.
Improvements: variety of the food, opening hours of the restaurants, price of beverages and the use of the SPA. A four star hotel should have a free spa. Even if you have a voucher you can only use it once and kids are only allowed in the morning, not pleasant at all.
Nice policy for sun beds. Guests should have free pass to cross the channel in the crossing boats. No life guard in the beach it's a minus.

I've stayed in the hotel during June and it was great, the hotel is very big, has alot to offer, the pool is very good and they have a heated pool below the hotel, also in front of the hotel you have the beach, the only downside is you need the car to get to El portil "centre", but the hotel has alot to offer.
I would stay there again to relax from the stress of the big city!

Overall a good family holiday. Could have been a great one ...
Pros:
- Pools, slides and spa - simply phenomenal quantity and variety;
- Many, if not most of the rooms, have nice views;
- Bathrooms a very generous size with separate bath and large shower;
- Good proximity to Seville (1hr15), Tavira in Algarve (1hr) and nice local seafront towns;
Cons:
- Food was OK, but lacked local or even national specialities and lunchtime food options were appalingly bad (burger, hotdog, chips, grotesque looking salads and a few sandwiches);
- Beach and sea under utilised. There is a directly but dirty access route to the beach to the river which is not swimmable (the bed is full of nasty shells or possibly worse). The paradise of the real beach and sea a little further beyond is inaccessible (you might think that the hotel would operate a ferry boat at all times);
- Beds are apparently king size doubles, but are unlike any double bed I have ever seen in a hotel - in US these would be standard single beds;
- Simply understaffed. Not sure if this a sign of the (economic) times, but the very good staff and management that were working were the bare minimum to ensure the hotel functioned. There was no added extra service, and there were periods where they could not cope with unplanned events.
- Hotel showing signs of ageing - cracks, signs broken, etc

Mostly Spanish clientele, very few others (German, British or otherwise), but my bare minimum Spanish was plenty good enough.

Many of these cons could be put right and turn what feels like a very average 4 star into a real destination for this part of Spain.

Room Tip: Beware of 'double beds'. Standard rooms have 2 in each, so whilst they advertise it can sleep 4, they can only really comfortably sleep 2. They do have interconnecting rooms, so that is where you can sleep 4! Views should good wherever, but the higher floors 4-5 have the clearer sea views.
