We found this restaurant on Trip Advisor while overnighting in Madrid on he way to El Puerto. It had excellent ratings all around and I've rarely been disappointed with places with such great reviews.
Not being used to European dinner times, we arrived to a mostly empty dining room at 7pm. We had great outdoor seats surrounded by heavy duty clear plastic curtains and outdoor heaters that kept the chilly night comfortable with a nice view of the street.
Inside they had a tank with live lobster and crab and several fresh seafood cuts over ice in a display cabinet. We went with the grilled seafood special and a seafood paella both portioned and priced for two. This was more than enough food for my wife and two children!
The grilled seafood came with four different types of shrimp and grilled squid. Despite living and eating in Japan for 6 years the squid we had that night was by far the best we've ever had. The larger dark prawns were smoky with sea salt and were the highlight of the evening.
The paella was good, but it's hard for me to judge as it normally is not my favorite dish.
Lastly we had a queso tart and flan. The flan was good, but the queso tart was the best cheese cake creation any of us have tried. And the black coffee they served, though small by American standard was rich and full bodied and kept its flavor until the last drop.
Overall we were very pleased with our first excursion out in Spain!
