We spent three weeks at The Shores at Lake Travis. We were in the area for medical reasons and needed some place for an extended stay. Our unit was a two bedroom, two bath with one bath for the master room and the other had two doors - one to the hall and the other to the second bedroom. The master had a queen bed and the other room had two twin beds. The couch pulled out but the mattress was way too thin for most adults to sleep on.

The unit that had updated bathrooms - new tile floors and shower, counters, sinks, toilets, and paint. The rest of the unit had solid furniture that matched the rustic look of the unit. I don't think it was dirty or old, it just wasn't something fancy. The couches were actually very comfortable to lounge around on and relax. The mattresses were clean and new but were a little firm for my liking. I normally sleep on a foam mattress so it might just be me. Also, we had several different groups and families on either side of us and we did not have an issue with noise. The units are generally three in a row.

The kitchen had a full size stove, oven, microwave dishwasher, and refrigerator with a limited number of pots and pans to use. Everything worked well.

The staff was nice and helpful and family like. We had an issue with the water not being hot enough as the new shower valve was set low and the maintenance guy came right away and adjusted it for us. They do a $3 pancake breakfast each week and it was basic but again, the staff was very nice and they were good enough for us to go back two different weeks.

We did not do much on the grounds themselves but there is a pool. We used the communities gym which you get a key card for and it is about a 3/4 mile walk (good warm up) or you can drive back up the entrance road. There are lots of roads with undeveloped properties which make for good running routes if you are into that like me. There are several waterfront parks that you have access to also for swimming and hanging out.

Access is not bad to the grocery and drug store - maybe 10 minutes. We spent a bit of time in Austin so most of our eating out was done there and can't speak to the restaurants in the area. Austin downtown is about a 45 minute drive.

Lastly, the deer are great. They watch you through the windows just waiting to be fed and we came to know several of the ones that ate right from your hand. They were a lot of fun and there are some guinea hens and some mallards too!

No, you may not be in an updated room...no problem...or have a lakeside view...again no problem...but to see my 97 yr. old mom and the smiles on her face as she enjoyed the deer all during the day...we will definitely go back one day! We spent a week there and loved it! You can walk down to the lake, feed the deer from your hand, enjoy sitting on the back deck, swim in the pool, visit the game room, check out games, movies, books at no charge, take side trips to Cedar Park, Round Rock, Austin...we made trips to San Antonio and Brenham...and didn't mind the drive at all, just gave us more to see of TX! We made new friends, some of them there for family reunions....great idea! My mom is already thinking of a return trip!

Room Tip: If you enjoy watching/feeding the deer, a room near the office is nice.

The front desk clerk was really nice. But-This place was dirty and dated. The unit was a 1980's mirrored nightmare with cheap furniture. The black jacuzzi (mirrored of course) was visibly dirty including hand prints on the mirrors. The Internet was inconsistent and slow. And the deer were all over the place. I know some people find that charming but having had one run into a rental car recently, it was kind of disconcerting to us. And it's not Lakefront. Even the bed pillows seemed old and flat. It looked as though some units were being renovated (lots of tubs and cabinets laying about outside the building next to ours)- it would have been nicer to have one of the updated units. And if you want to be in Austin budget 45 minutes drive time

We stayed at The Shores while visiting my daughter who lives in Austin. After reading some of the reviews, we were very worried about the conditions. The unit we stayed in had newer carpet and updated bathrooms. It only has one real closet in the 2nd bedroom. The deer in the area provided entertainment for the children in our group.
Don't expect to see the water while here. Newer townhomes block any view. The drive into Austin can take 40 - 50 minutes. The roads to get to The Shores are very dark at night. We would not stay here again.

Lagos Vista is a quiet secluded location tucked away in the Texas hills. It was such a wonderful place to relax and unwind. The scenery was spectacular. I'm already planning my return trip. The office staff was welcoming and friendly.
