My friend and I had heard a great deal about this place, so we had to pay it a visit. We had a really good bottle of wine, and our waitress picked out a 4 course meal: the smoked beets, goat dumplings, oysters and then the beet pannacotta for dessert. First of all: we knew that the food would arrive as soon as it was ready, but it was fast! Suddenly we had three courses on the table, and ate as fast as we could. Didn’t have any time to enjoy it. Next time we will pick our own food. Second: the food was good, but it wasn’t great. After all the hype, we ended up disappointed.. and last: they were very busy when we arrived(8pm), so the service was rushed and the whole experience just wasn’t very special. If I return it will probably be earlier or later in the day.

I really wanted to give underbelly five stars. I wanted the food to live up to all the hype. I wanted to at least TRY Underbelly. After driving around the block a couple of times and circling the building on foot a man near the large meat smokers in the parking lot informed us that Underbelly is deceased. Belly up! He said that it would return at some future date in another location with a revised name and a new mission. Thanks so much for (not) letting people know about this rather important turn of events on your web site. Hope we will catch the new version if we ever return to Houston.

Excellent food and drinks
Service lags the food though

Had
pork collar- excellent,
pork chop- good, the other items were just so much better
snapper with noodles- excellent,
braised goat dumpling- absolutely marvelous,
shrimp and clams in pho broth- his version is truly delicious.

Communal family shared plates makes it fun and challenging to order :)
Go before it closes end of march 2018
Cant wait to see the chefs new vision!

Located in a part of town with a colorful history – hence the name – this place has diehard fans who come regularly for their favorites. We had one such in our group. The family style curated menu was in her safe hands. After the charcuterie and warm ciabatta, we had Korean Braised Goat & Dumplings. I quite liked it, being used to goat meat preparations in Asia. A Pinot Noir was good company. What really stood out was their Smoked Pork Roast with Sweet Potato Gratin (layered beautifully), and Sliced Butchers Cut with Smashed Potatoes. The high-flame roasts were glistening and crisp on the outside, delightfully tender and pink inside, great herb flavors. You will love them. Finish off with Vinegar Pie (a take on lemon tarts - strongly recommended) and Chocolate Tres Leches (sinful).
