I've been to this location on Northwest Highway many times. I love El Fenix and haven't eaten anything I didn't like there. The thin chips, which are never greasy, are the best. The food is real Tex-Mex, consistent, and the service is very fast - most of the time. The biggest wait might be standing in line at the cash registers to pay, depending on how busy they are. This location, however, charges extra for sour cream - and fresh jalapeño peppers on nachos (instead of pickled peppers) - where the main location does not charge extra for these items. Small irritation, but worth mentioning.

This is the third El Fenix we've visited and we haven't been disappointed in the food. Service was great. We had a party of 12 and ordered a large variety of items and all were great. My only complaint is the house margarita which lacks flavor and probably much tequila. This has been my only complaint at all three of the El Fenix's we've eaten at. Their upscale margaritas are excellent.

We eat here a lot when we are in Dallas. It's a family fav. Lately the service is great and the food is good.

The parking can be a bear, but don't give up!

Recommended: The Texco plate, soft corn tortillas and made at your table guacamole.

Ok - I've been to El Fenix and had an acceptable time. But, I finally just had it. We walked in. No greeting. After standing there for 3-4 minutes, we finally walked into the dining area. There's the hostess, standing - back to the wall and out of sight - just outside the greeting area.

Seated at the table - their staff seemed hurried and distracted - clearly they were understaffed. Out of Diet Coke, the food was slow and just "fine".

In a city with the choices for Tex-Mex food like we have here in Dallas, there is no reason to accept mediocrity.

Go elsewhere. Don't waste your time/money here.

We ate at El Fenix during a quick trip to Dallas for a wedding. We love Tex-Mex food and were not disappointed. This was a first time visit for us and did know what to expect. The restaurant is large and a bit noisy (at least during our Saturday lunch), so do not expect an intimate, white-table-cloth experience. However, our server was attentive but not overly so, and food was served hot and fast. Chips and salsa were excellent, entrees were tasty and our tres leches cake was delicious. There is plenty to choose from, too, from traditional Tex-Mex fare to vegetarian offerings.
