In Dallas for the first time and I gotta eat, so I ran across this place. Of course I searched the most reviewed places locally and this place comes up with 2,300 reviews, an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars. Do I really even need to do another review for them? Yup. Lol.
Atmosphere/Appearance: Cheeky little building that actually seems to have more outdoor seating than indoor. I found that fascinating. Be careful in the tight private parking lot though, since it'll likely be packed for good reason! Once inside the modern-designed building you'll surely find a line. The menu is plastered on the wall in full detail so you don't have to look down at some paper hurting your neck, but you still could if you wanted to by grabbing a paper version near the front. I was here on a Monday night around 9:30pm so it wasn't properly busy, but still were plenty of people there.
Service: There isn't any. You place your order at the counter, go grab your drink, complimentary water, sauces and go sit down to wait for your food to be brought to you. Nice, smooth system worked very well no matter if you're sitting in or outside.
Food: I was hungry enough to try (and stuff myself) with 4 of their tacos. They're slightly bigger than the palm of your hand and don't come all doubled up like a lot of other taco joints to soak up the grease. My first taco was the Tikka Chicken. An Indian taco?! Who would've thought?! It's crisp chicken tenders, spicy pepper sauce, buttered cilantro basmati rice, raita crema, thai basil all jammed into a fluffy flour tortilla. So freaking good and tasted just like I was eating at an Indian buffet. Next up was the Annatto Pulled Pork which contains avocado crema, house shredded greens, grilled pineapple, pickled onion, queso fresco, cilantro all in a hibiscus corn tortilla. Another hit. So good and something I'd totally get again. Next was the Texas Akaushi Bacon Burger. Now you're asking why I'd go to a taco place to basically get a burger in a tortilla... because I can. It was seasoned beef, peppered bacon, smoked cheddar, lettuce, onion, tomato, pickle, velvet sauce all in a flour tortilla. Fantastic and was my second favorite taco of the night. Last, but not least, was the Shrimp & Grits Taco. Sounds so wild and unorthodox right? Right, but it WORKED. It's creole mayo, blackened shrimp, crispy pepper jack cheese grits, charred tomato-poblano salsa, micro cilantro in a corn tortilla. Absolutely incredible and I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. I need to get back here as soon as I can to try the rest of their menu out!
Value: Decent. I think they're priced appropriately.
Tikka Chicken = $4.25
Annatto Pulled Pork = $3.95
Texas Akaushi Bacon Burger = $4.95
Shrimp & Grits = $5.75
$20.00 will easily fill you up here and the food is definitely worth the price.
In conclusion this place is worthy of their rating. They've worked hard to create something so different and unique. I loved it here and will definitely be back!
