We can't recommend Gaia enough!
From the moment we were picked up from Belize city to the moment we checked out the service was wonderful, food was amazing and we were fully relaxed in holiday mode.
The cabanas and grounds are absolutely stunning and the location on the waterfall is breaktaking. We loved playing in the falls and chilling out in the sun beds and hammocks next to them. The staff even bring you lunch and drinks down there which was fabulous.
We stayed in both the waterfall view & mountain view cabanas and both were immaculate. The bed and pillows are to die for!
A truly wonderful stay in a magical setting!

We loved our stay at Gaia and the staff and service were fantastic. It is quite a magical little place but note that it might not be everyone’s cup of tea. We are by no means the types that take ‘active holidays’ or adventure holidays but we still really enjoyed ourselves. It was incredibly relaxing and the setting is quite incredible. We had 3 nights / 2 full days there and that was quite enough. If you can make it work then 2 nights would be ample.

Please note that there is literally nothing going on in the evenings. People seemed to dine at 6:30pm and be in bed at 8:30pm. A bit odd but I suppose people are up early going off on activities.

We visited nearby Blancaneaux for dinner which I can recommend. Nice to mix things up.

We certainly recommend visiting.

We had done the rainforest and reef package at Gaia and Matachica, and I cannot recommend it enough. We did the Matachica beach leg first, so when we arrived at Gaia we were pretty relaxed and ready to get some activities in. Gaia had plenty to offer and I actually wish we had a day or two more to stay. The rooms are great, you get your own cabana which is secluded enough where you don't see or hear any other guests once you're inside. The lodge has the most beautiful view of the river (and we biked to blanceneaux so I feel comfortable saying this). You can take a small hike down to the river (the cable car was broke when we were there) where there is a pretty area set up with chairs on the beach. Unfortunately, we only had three days so didn't get to spend too much time there. The rest of our trip included guided tours - which were all phenomenal. While I'm sure they would have been great on their own, but our guide Isael really took the trips to the next level. He studied conservation and could answer any question we through at him about Mayan history or the wildlife surrounding us. We took a tour to a Mayan ruin and were amazed how few people were there. It was amazing to see these structures, let alone be able to get photos without hundreds of people in them! There was plenty to do back at the hotel as well - we biked to a nearby waterfall and blancaneaux, for example. I highly recommend a tour of their organic garden, the man who tends it is incredibly knowledgable and it was very interesting to have him show you around (I wish he wrote a gardening book!). If I had to say one thing - it'd be that the menu has a little less variety than at Matachica, but I imagine that's because it's right on the water and this is very remote. I highly recommend this place though, and we hope to go back soon. Thanks Gaia staff (Derby's drinks are great!) and Isael for making our trip so memorable!

Gaia Riverlodge is one hour down a dusty, partially paved road and quite literally, one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

The backdrop is five sisters waterfall which provides a beautiful “beach” to jump in and cool off or pull up a hammock to read for a while. It’s accessible by the tram or by foot.
We even saw an otter one day.

The room (we stayed in Mist) was well appointed and the beds are extremely comfortable. Our oversized shower is equipped with a nice rain head.

Staff is magnificent. Rudy brought us from the airport and took us on a day trip (Mayan Cultural Trip). Rudy is a font of knowledge and we learned so much from him. Derby makes a great drink in the bar. And the kitchen is fabulous. We had sumptuous food at every meal. They run their own organic garden which provides 75% of the fresh fruits and vegetables they serve. The care they take of the product is exceptional.

Would we come back?? YES we will.

This was absolutely amazing. From the grounds, waterfalls, garden, dinning room, lodging and staff. 2 of the staff instantly became our favorites. Derby and Robbie they were kind and attentive and easy to chat with! The entire staff was accommodating and friendly! Plan on spending money here! Our 5 day tab for food and drinks equaled quite a bit in US dollars as this is NOT INCLUDED in the lodging price! But having said this the drinks are very good and their Chef Troy is amazing in their kitchen! I would recommend this place to anyone! Ps. Bring bug spray as the “no see ums” were relentless!!
