Last minute anniversary trip. We received a warm welcome on our arrival. Our room was spacious, with views out of the gorgeous gardens. Lovely bathroom with fluffy towels, plenty of hot water for a relaxing bath after the journey. Lots of attention to detail to ensure we had everything we needed to help us relax. There was a welcoming fire in the lounge where you can sit and relax with a stunning view of the lake. Meals were delicious, having breakfast looking out across the lake is a great way to start your day. The walks around the lake are well described. Weather permitting there are tennis courts and you can hire bikes and go boating on the lake. The RSPB reserve is a short distance away. The spa looked amazing too. Hope we can return.

Room tip: Book spa treatments before you go - also check about hiring bikes etc before going.

My husband and I stayed here 11 - 14 February 2020. This was our sixth visit to the hotel so we knew what to expect. However, on arriving at our room we were quite disappointed in the standard of the fixtures and fittings. In the bathroom the toilet’s cistern lid was resting separately on a shelf. We thought this had been an oversight by housekeeping but no. When we put the cistern lid back where it belonged the toilet seat was unable to be put up for a stand up pee. Our bedroom carpet was threadbare, the bed was hard and some of the furniture was so old and broken down it was almost unusable. The breakfast was not that good. My full Welsh was overcooked and my egg was cold (though the plate was very hot), my husband had haddock and poached egg and it consisted of a white piece of fish and white eggs – not appetising to look at and the fish was dry and unappealing. On a happier note the staff were all pleasant and polite and we have nothing bad to say about them.

Thank you for taking the time to share your review with us.

I am disappointed to read that your experience did not meet your expectations, for which I apologise. I can neither excuse nor explain the lack of attention to detail shown throughout your stay.

We take constructive comments very seriously and will do everything within our ability to rectify and improve on the points you have raised. I have shared your review with our kitchen and maintenance teams to avoid a repeat of this below par performance.

I can only apologise once more, and I feel I must mention as an independent and family concern that we are not a faceless, corporate organisation but one that really cares about customer sentiment and strive to achieve the highest levels of guest satisfaction we possibly can.

We do hope we can welcome you back in the future.

Kind regards,

I stayed here during stormy weather and the drive in wasnt ideal. Wouldn't advise driving here in the snow! Ignoring the weather (which the hotel cant help), the staff were very welcoming, food was tasty, room was comfortable. The only downside was the pillows, which werent very comfortable. Otherwise, it was a lovely stay and I would stay here again in warmer months!

Came with an old friend to celebrate our birthdays.

We received such a warm and friendly greeting. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff here.

The rooms were the superior lake view. I had a four poster double bed, my friend next door a king sized without the posts. We both had a simply stunning view over the lake. The beds were comfy, bathrooms and bedrooms well-equipped. Everything spotlessly clean. The “guard dogs” (or dragons) were a cute touch (instead of a do not disturb sign, guests are asked to place the cuddly toy allocated to their room outside the door to guard it if they don’t want to be disturbed!

We visited the spa - jacuzzi, steam, sauna and a selection of loungers. With That View! Great! We didn’t book treatments in advance, and they were fully booked. That was fine with us, but if it’s important, they do say book in advance!

We did some clay shooting, with Zac the grounds man. We had both done some shooting before, and Zac was great, helping us navigate the stands and coaching. The hotel was comfortable with guests bringing their own shotguns, with secure storage being provided.

We are both nights in the main restaurant, and this was lovely. In mid winter, it was pitch black, but in the summer, this would be made more special by the huge window the length of the restaurant, overlooking the lake.

Lunches were in the tavern - tasty, simple food with typical Vyrnwy friendly and efficient service.

This place is wonderful. Relaxed, friendly, unfussy and in the most stunning setting. Will be back!!!

We were caught in the floods in the Tanat Valley travelling home through Storm Ciara. We remembered Lake Vyrnwy from a previous day trip and as it was higher up we thought it might provide the perfect bolt hole. The reception team were so friendly and helpful and we were soon settled into our Garden View Bedroom with an enormous, comfy super king bed, separate bath and shower room, lots of lovely ground coffee, teas, hot chocolate and yummy biscuits. Great food in the Brasserie where had a late casual lunch. Both this space and the main Restaurant also have wonderful views overlooking Lake Vyrnwy. There are extensive gardens, a separate Tavern and a Spa (although we didn’t make it there). Breakfast in the morning was fabulous. Great choice of fruits, cereals and juices and an extensive choice of cooked to order hot plates including a full Welsh breakfast, Smoked Haddock and Poached Eggs, Eggs Benedict, Porridge etc. The staff were really friendly, helpful, efficient and professional. After our very difficult journey this really was a life saver and such a great, unexceptional extension to our weekend away. We will definitely be back!
