“Friendly & Cosy”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 February 2012

Having climbed the mountain in constant rain this was a most welcome retreat. Nothing was too much trouble and Rachel was really helpful and friendly. Nice traditional Inn with superb food both in the evening and for breakfast. Would definitely stay again.

Spent four nights recently at Bryn Tyrch - first time in the area. The hotel (really a gastro-pub with rooms) is an unassuming stopover on the A5 which does itself no favours with run-of-the-mill signage and a slightly unpreposessing appearance. Inside the picture is quite different. Rooms are a good size (we had the three-room family room at the back, which is quiet) and the restaurant is fabulous. Good quality linen, bathroooms, TVs etc (though note no Vodafone reception in the area). As someone who eats our several times a week in London in the course of my job I found the food extraordinarily good by any standards. The comparison for food of this quality is not another pub down the road in Betws-y-Coed) (pace another reviewer below) but a gastropub in the Ramsay/ Blanc mold. High quality ingredients prepared with real care and presented with some flair - in enormous platefulls for walkers recently returned from the hillsides. Wine list needs some upgrading but is fairly priced. Puddings not the strongest part of the menu - suspect the chef lacks a sweet tooth. You could nevertheless easily eat here for a week without running out of interesting menu choices, and there is more than enough walking/climbing in the area to justify the stopover. Service generally receptive and very friendly; maitre d is the hotel owner and could be a little more obvious in this role, but a charming man who deserves success with what is a very appealing formula indeed. Bravo!

Room Tip: Specify a room at the back (away from the A5) although all rooms are double glazed.

After allowing the dust to settle on the return to work, I felt obliged to review the Bryn Tyrch. I organised a large group booking for 3 nights, over New Year. There were 14 of us in total, three of the kids shared a bunk room, the rest were in the standard rooms. We ate in the pub on NYE and also the following night. It is fair to say that we were looked after superbly. Rachel was attentive when we arrived, made sure we all settled quickly, and proved to be extremely helpful throughout our visit. We spent many hours in front of the fire, mulled wine (and plenty of the local real ale as well) in hand, chilling out and generally relaxing. The food was always superb, with some of the meals served on NYE falling into the category of "stunning". I am frequently disappointed by breakfasts but was delighted to see an Inn pull of a "self service buffet breakfast" (don't think dodgy hotel chain buffet) in style. The quality of the food (sausages, bacon etc) was excellent and the self service area constantly attended to. The staff are all a credit to the Inn - friendly, unobtrusive and efficient and I can say that everyone in our party had a fantastic time. We will be back soon. Yes it rained, a lot, but it is Wales and we still got into the hills...............and returned wet! The hotel was always warm and welcoming, as were the staff. Great Hog Roast on New Years Day as well.

Room Tip: The Family Room that we were in had scope for kids in the middle lounge section - we didn't use...

We have just returned from a fantastic stay at this traditional, cosy and very friendly inn. After arriving late with two young children we were greeted by a warm log fire, a spacious and beautfiully decorated family suite and hot mulled wine. We were part of a large group of fourteen and we all agreed the food, service and accommodation were of an excellent standard. We also had special dietary needs and the staff when out of their way to help us. We will definately be returning and would highly recommend the Bryn Tyrch to anyone looking for a weekend retreat in this part of Wales.

Room Tip: The family suite has a good size master bedroom with an attached lounge area with two sofa beds. It...

We returned to the Bryn Tyrch after 30 years. We had a delightful 4 day stay. The hotel is ideally situated for walking the Snowdon range, and best of all we thought it provided excellent value for money. The food was good, with a hearty breakfast to be had each morning. Comfortable, modern accomodation and very clean. The staff were friendly, helpful and accomodating. We would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Although the double glazing was very effective, if you like to sleep with a window open then a room...
