The food here was perfect! I had the lamb chops and the taste was awesome. My wife had the blackened red snapper and if too was amazing. Great wine choices and urban, distressed environment which made a great atmosphere.

Completely un-marked restaurant- you have to know to go into BB Kings place and ask for it as it is upstairs and through the blues bar.

Top class place though with excellent service. Recommend it for that special meal on a trip to Memphis.

It’s located above the famous BB kings on Beale Street, we walked through BB kings - live music, rowdy bunch, but so much fun, lots of laughing, dancing, music. Wasn’t sure what to expect from upstairs as it seemed very informal below. From the outside the restaurant has blue tinted windows that’s how you’ll recognise it.

Entered the restaurant, from the moment you go in, service is impeccable, it’s affordable fine dining, we had a couple of starters each, i tried the clam chowder which was nice, main course was the lamb chops in a bed of risotto, the meat was cooked amazingly and in cake with an incredible jus. Overall a fantastic night, thoroughly recommend the place, looking at a minimum of $50 per person.

You enter via the fire stairs.
Food was good - nothing super special but well prepared. Service was good - attentive but not over the top.

Absolutely unbelievable restaurant in the heart of Beale street in Memphis.
We just tried this restaurant on a lark after reading a review in a Memphis flier.
To enter you must go up a fire escape or go through B B Kings bar. Quite unusual. After going through a fire door and climbing some stairs we arrived at the restaurant.
Wow what a surprise the ambience is outstanding. A window table gets you a view of Beale street.
The service was impeccable. If you enjoy being pampered you will love this place
My wife chose the blackened salmon and I had shrimp and grits. The salmon was melt in your mouth and the shrimp and grits had a nice spice. The presentation was perfect. The cream brûlée was exceptional
Highly recommend. We will revisit the next time we are in Memphis.

Tucked behind the noisy tourist trap of Beale Street is a calmer and fancier restaurant called Itta Bena. Searching for it, you may be confused that it is on Beale and actually on the floor above BB King’s. What’s cool there, is you can sample vibes from different worlds. First, have a cocktail at BB King’s while taking in some funky tunes. Then, open a door upstairs and enter a serene piano-clad dining environment.

In that regard, Itta Bena does really qualify as a hidden gem. A very chill ambiance inside. It’s also a change of pace from the typical draw of bbq fare. It was my first time in Memphis and only night to eat out and I was very satisfied with my choice — a place right in town but cleverly separated from the raucous.

The menu is exciting and leaves you with a bit of FOMO. It’s a creative blend of southern cuisine. The servers offer compelling recommendations. I ordered the duck and waffles, with cheese grits and mushrooms on the side. My dinner mate ordered the pork chop. We both had the grilled shrimp appetizer. And I had the bread pudding dessert. Complimented by a variety of tasty cocktails.

Everything was flavorful and cooked well. The presentation was excellent and the service was too. We really enjoyed our experience at Itta Bena and would definitely return.

Worth a trip for something a bit unique in the Memphis scene.
