Spent a lovely few days here for a birthday celebration with the family including dogs. Very comfortable house with plenty space for us all. There was also a bbq and large patio set which was great given the weather. House is in a super location next to the canal with loads of walks and cycles on the doorstep. Mike was very helpful and quick to respond to any queries.
We stayed in this property last year when arranging a family funeral. Sadly we were back recently for the same reason. It was no contest where we would stay as this is simply an excellent large house.
The upshot is that the family has decided to visit again next year for a general get together where we can enjoy the property in a more positive atmosphere. I said it all before in my previous positive review but if a family wants to stay in a traditional large Scottish house and use it as a base to enjoy the surrounding area then this is it. Food at the nearby Cairnbaan Hotel (easy walking distance) is good and there are also many forest walks in the close vicinity. We can't wait to return and cannot recommend highly enough.
We loved the house and the garden, lots of space for us all - granny, children, grandchildren. We enjoyed being right beside the canal and the locks, seeing the boats coming and going, and how the locks worked. The tow path is a great place to cycle or walk, or just enjoy the view. Close to supermarket in Lochgilphead. Various historical sites to visit - standing stones, museum at Kilmartin, Tarbert, beach at Machrihanish beautiful. Lovely drives along to Crinan ferry and the end of the canal at the harbour (you could also walk or cycle this), Tayvalich and Carsaig - great views over to Jura and Islay. The 'boys' took the ferry over to Islay for the day and a whisky distillery tour. A very enjoyable, relaxing week for us all. Would love to visit again.
We booked the house for a long weekend in May to accommodate six adults and four children.
It turned out to be perfect for the occasion as it was even more spacious than the photos suggested. It was also very clean, comfortable and well equipped.
We were fortunate to have warm, sunny weather and took advantage of this to make good use of the space both inside and out. The canal path was perfect for walking, running (plodding) and cycling.
The owner, Michael was very easy to communicate with and quick to respond to any queries we had prior to our visit.
Overall, it was an excellent venue in a beautiful location which I cannot recommend highly enough.
Thanks, Michael....
