We stayed here for 2 nights and everything was perfect. The location i close to the ferry and in centrum of the small town. Eleanor and Jim were great hosts and the breakfast was great. Our room was big and comfy.

40 Pier Road was our comfortable base for a wonderful visit to Islay. Our accommodation (Finlaggan) was well-furnished and spacious, with views to the sea from bedroom and bathroom. Eleanor is a knowledgeable host, always able to suggest walks and local historical sites, and there are lots of guidebooks available to browse for ideas. Breakfast was delicious, and we appreciated being able to use the guest kitchen as an alternative to eating out in the evening. Warmly recommended.

We stayed at 40 Pier Road for two nights during our stay at Islay. Eleanor and Jim were great hosts, very helpful and kind. We had a nice view towards the Port Ellen bay. The room was clean, beds were comfy (even my sofa bed!) and the bathroom felt newly renovated and fresh. There's also a shared kitchen with fridge and a stove where, if you want, you can cook your own food. Eleanor served us home made breakfast every morning which tasted great!

The whiskey distilleries on the south side of the Island (Laphroaig, Lagavullin and Ardbeg) are on a walking distance from Port Ellen (approx. 9km Port Ellen-Ardbeg). We had a nice day walking to the distilleries and back. Port Ellen is quite quiet though, if you want a little more pubs and restaurants I'd try Bowmore instead.

Well located close to the ferry from the mainland and to the pubs in Port Ellen, although a nice quiet location with lovely views from the bedroom and dining room out over the bay. There is also a small kitchen that guests can make use of which is handy and something that not many B&Bs have, so you could do your own lunch/evening meal if you wanted. The B&B owners were welcoming and gave us some good information/tips about what was going on around the island, and a good breakfast was served with a few different options available.

We were on Islay (as many people are) primarily to visit some of the distilleries, and Port Ellen is a good location for this as the three distilleries along the south coast (Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg) are all only a mile apart from each other, and the furthest is only 3 miles from Port Ellen so easily walkable from the B&B along the quiet coastal road, although a footpath is being built and was mostly complete at the time of our visit. With a bit of planning it is also possible to visit other distilleries on the island by public bus if you fancy a dram or two and can't drive. All in all, would happily recommend as a good B&B in its own right and also as a good location for seeing Islay.

Stayed in this great B&B over my 50th Birthday as visiting my favourite distillery on the Island. The welcome we received was warm and genuine and the room, facilities and cleanliness were extremely good. Breakfast was made with top ingredients and was very well presented. The use of a fully equipped kitchen was different and and really a bonus if you fancy a night away from restaurant eating. The B&B is ideally situated close to the ferry and other amenities in Port Ellon. A lovely touch was the gift of a small bottle of Malt at breakfast on my birthday which was most appreciated. As an extra dimension to the above review my wife and I have recently retired from running a Guesthouse ourselves for a number of years so we really do notice those little touches that make a difference. Would not hesitate to recommend so thank you to Eleanor and Jim for a great stay.

Room Tip: Just book a room and enjoy!
