The cottage looks over Loch Torridon. The view is wonderful, with the added bonus of a munro behind it.
Once in Torridon village it's easy to find and has parking for two cars immediately outside. Durrie Cottage is clean and we'll equiped. It has a new kitchen; bathroom and shower room yet had the feeling of a quaint Highland cottage.
A well stocked shop with cafe are a short walk from the cottage. We are already plotting our return next year.
A lovely cottage very homely had friends visiting from the states and they thoroughly enjoyed it . Scenery second to none
Blue Chimneys/The Durrie is a brilliant base for exploring this part of the world - or even just staying put in. The location, at the head of the loch and with the mountains rising behind, is genuinely stunning - a wonderful outlook to wake up to every morning. There are short walks nearby that take you to the beach, and the Torridon Store has a comprehensive range of essential supplies (as well as fine coffee, cake and lunches).
The cottage itself is very comfortable and well-equipped, with some parts lagging slightly in terms of modernisation (that's an observation, not a criticism). The upstairs shower room and the big bathroom are both very nicely done, and the kitchen is excellent for a property of this side. Both bedrooms are very comfortable. The lounge and dining area are probably the weakest elements - while still being perfectly adequate; once those are both updated in line with the rest of the property, this rental will be really impeccable. (Note that people with mobility problems might find the stairs a bit steep and the turns at the top and bottom a bit tricky.)
The sun porch is a great place to sit and read, as is the bench in the garden (as the weather allows; we were amazingly lucky in that we had nine straight days of sunshine and 17-20 degree temperatures every day - scarcely believable...).
Caretaker Sheila was very helpful and friendly, and good to talk to.
Overall I would recommend this cottage extremely highly. We had a fabulous stay here.
Our experience with Durrie Cottage had a great start with all correspondence with Sally promptly answered.
Durrie Cottage is not a 5 Star hotel and doesn't claim to be but everything is as advertised. There are wonderful bathroom facilities, a new kitchen and very cosy beds. What the description doesn't tell you is Durrie Cottage has a warm and cosy feeling, like slipping into your favourite slippers at the end of the day.
Durrie Cottage was a perect base to explore Diabaig, Applecross and Inverewe Gardens, not to mention beautiufl Torridon itself.
We loved it!!
This is a wonderful place to stay, we are just back from our week there and would recommend to everyone. Enjoyed every minute and the scenery is stunning. we had two trips up Applecross too as the first trip was wasted due to low cloud & mist but the second was bang on, the views are amazing.
cottage is warm & cozy, we didn't need the fire on as the storage heaters gave plenty of heat. A truly special place to stay.
