I am blessed enough to be a member at Skibo, and I use the word "blessed" intentionally. It is the most wonderful place in so many ways -- peaceful, romantic, welcoming. The staff are truly special, and there is nothing they will not do to make your stay enjoyable. We have been as a couple, with business associates, and with our children, and have never once been disappointed. Even when the occasional ball is dropped (and this happens at every hotel), the moment seems to pass quickly, the problem is fixed, and attention is drawn to the amazing scenery and beauty of the place. If you have the chance to visit and you can even remotely afford it, you will never regret your choice, and I suspect the memories will stay with you the rest of your life. The place is that special.

I am privileged enough to say that I have spent many nights at Skibo, and I have to say I have loved every single one of them. Skibo has its weak points as does every hotel but what makes Skibo so special is the staff and the way you are treated by all of them. The castle is full of character and characters. Lavish decoration unique bedrooms roaring fires and breathtaking views make this club my favorite place to stay. The golf course is extremely good and challenging even to the best golfers so if you are a golfer then bring your clubs (They also have a large selection of rental shoes/clubs available) If golf isnt your thing then the possibilities are endless their newly renovated spa is wonderful and they offer some of the best treatments from all over the world. If you have time and weather permitting you may also want to try horse riding, quad biking, off road driving, fly fishing, clay pigeon/pheasant shooting or maybe just a relaxing swim in the 19th century marble swimming pool (Restoration begins soon i believe and I am not sure how long it will take). The food and wine is very good too and all food and drink is included in the price. Unlike many places that offer wine in the price the wine there is actually very well chosen on the whole really good.
If you are thinking about bringing your family then I would definitely stay in one of the lodges. They offer more privacy that staying in the castle and are perfect for large groups or families with small children. If you are planning a more romantic trip then stay in the castle. I would recommend West Tower 1 or Mr. Carnegies room but Members get these rooms before a one time visitor. The main problem with Skibo is its location i.e. it is hard to get to from most places. I guess that’s not even a problem in fact it is easy to say that is one of the better points of Skibo, it is so secluded and surreal that when you are staying there you really do feel like time has stopped, a feeling that would be harder to create if you were an hour outside of London.
Prices are steep yes but deservedly so and to be quite honest I look at Skibo as a bargain if you make full use of the activities offered.
If you ever get the opportunity to stay here don’t turn it down you will not regret spending the money once you have had a Skibo experience.
