The location of this hostel is utterly amazing and every time you look out of the window there is something amazing to see, whether it is red deer strolling past, red squirrels on the fence or fabulous birds on the loch. The castle and harbour are a short stroll away and there was even a Minke whale in the harbour the week before we were there.
The kitchen facilities are professional standard, though the breakfast was disappointing.
The only thing that would make it better would be local people working there who have knowledge of the local area.

Room tip: Rooms at the front of the building have amazing views over the harbour.

Hostel efficiently run. Clean and comfortable. Delightful location. Red deer from the windows and otter by the ferry. (Also pipistrelle bat whizzing passed the bedroom window every evening (hoovering up any wee beasties). While we were there it seemed to be very busy and the clientele very eclectic which I always find interesting. This was my second visit. My only tip for future visitors, so at least you can be prepared, is that I'm not sure the kitchen layout lent itself to especially sociable dining as everyone seemed to be tripping over each other. That being said, I'm not sure how it could be improved unless more food prep. space was made available; as it was, the central island with the cookers that was the thing making it so congested.

I stayed at this hostel for a weekends trip to Arran. Hostel was very comfortable, clean and hygienic. Hostel staffs were very helpful and did the best to answer my question about the local area and also the hostel itself. The room/bed was comfortable, common room and kitchen was very specious and the breakfast in the morning (not included the price) was adequate. Free wifi (but signal in the whole island is not so great). Great view of the mountain and Lochranza castle from the hostel window.

I was cycling solo, met other guests cycling too. There is a bike shed at the back and car park at the front....Location can be a little far if you're not driving and coming from Glasgow.

Room tip: Comfortable, clean and friendly

This is a great place to stay, with amazing views over the loch from the front of the building.

Our room had 2 bunks for the three of us. The beds were very lumpy, but the bedding was clean. We'd taken our own pillows which we were happy about as theirs had seen better days. The view from the bathroom and bedroom were amazing, we spent a lot of time watching the red deer that were roaming around in the back garden. We had an en suite which was clean. The shower definitely woke us up in the morning - the force of it was verging on brutal!

The walls are exceptionally thin and we could hear the people next door chatting until the early hours very clearly. We were grateful it was just chatting (followed by snoring) that we could hear!

We didn't have the continental breakfast which was around £5, we'd picked up some potato farls and smoked salmon to have instead. The kitchen is very well equipped and the dining room is clean.

There is only one pub/place to eat in Lochranza within walking distance, so we headed there to eat - The Lochranza Inn. From the outside it didn't look overly inviting. Turned out to be ok. We had fish and chips which were freshly cooked and much better than we were expecting.

On our way back to the hostel, we were bitten by a huge cloud of midges. Every time we had to go to the car to get something, the midges were around you in seconds. I'd recommend you take some heavy duty midge repellent with you. Even my husband who normally never gets bitten was covered in bites!

As a budget overnight stop, I'd recommend this hostel.

Room tip: Ask for an en suite.

Very nice hostel overall, although our room was a bit stinky, we stayed in a 4 bed dormitory which was very clean and quiet. Kitchen and cooking facilities are fantastic so is parking, there is a couple of living room areas to chat with fellow travellers, lots of wildlife around, rabbits, sheeps resting on the road and deers as well. Lochranza castle is about 5 minutes walk and the views from the hostel are stunning.

Room tip: Very quiet in general, we stayed in a room facing the main road and I didn't hear a thing
