We went in here after our walk up the hill. Plenty of choice at good prices. I just had soup and a sandwich and my friend had the macaroni cheese. These along with a couple of coffees was a reasonable £20. The coffee was quite small and lukewarm though. This weather requires cups to be heated. The staff were lovely and the restaurant was very nice. Unfortunately the same can’t be said for the toilets. They were old fashioned and in need of a complete makeover, brought the place down in my opinion. But certainly can’t fault the ladies working there or the food so I would definitely go back.

this was a nice tea and cake at a reasonable price. The outside just looks like a pub but it is much nicer inside. Served by a german student with better English than mine.

Lovely food, freshly cooked with daily specials board and plenty of gluten free options in the restaurant. We did not try the coffee shop but the cakes looked very inviting. Staff were friendly and efficient.

We visited for lunch and were quickly seated at the window. We were also very quickly aware of a peculiar smell in the eating area, sort of fishy but certainly unpleasant. We also noticed that the cushioned base where we sat was quite heavily contaminated with large cobwebs (hardly a sign of a good cleaning regime). We left shortly after extremely disappointed in what looked to be a very quaint character filled establishment, although the seating in the dining area certainly doesn’t fit that description

The Covenanter Hotel has both a tea room (they do all their own baking, according to a local) and a restaurant for dinner. The food in both is excellent.  For dinner, they have a wide variety of appetizers (we had a breaded baked Brie with raspberry drizzle and small mixed salad and a potato skins with meat chili and sour cream), main courses (we had a braised lamb shank over balsamic rice and sea bass fillets over mixed vegetables), and desserts (we had a warm chocolate cake with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream).  The wine list was limited but contains a very nice French Pinot Noir.  The ambiance of the dinning room is best in the back half, which probably needs a reservation (which we had).  The service is excellent. Note for TV buffs: The hotel was used for an episode of "The Outlander".
