The Gods were shining on us with this one. Had another property in Dartmouth booked that Expedia mucked up so we were left trying to sort accommodation last minute. Availability came up on Downton Lodge and I cannot describe how happy I am that our other place fell through. This is one of our best ever Trip Advisor finds.

We initially booked a double room but due to an unfortunate cancellation they had had, the owner Andrew offered us the king size room at no extra cost. Andrew and Martin have run this as a B&B for 3 years and the classy contemporary decor and interiors throughout the whole property reflect that. Wonderful comfy bed, little balcony with outdoor table and seats, plus lovely little lounge area for guests with pod coffee, range of teas, biscuits, freshly made cake, honesty bar and spring water on tap. It was all spotlessly clean too.

Breakfast was cereals and fresh fruit and freshly squeezed juices followed by hot food selection cooked fresh by Andrew as he chats. The food was great and Andrew, who is just the most welcoming, friendly man, is a wealth of local information and loves a natter. With a large garden and outdoor seating area I can imagine in the summer there would be the temptation to spend days just lying in the sun.

The property is about a 5-10 minute drive into Dartmouth and a few minutes into the pretty village of Dittisham (where the Ferryboat Inn is a great little pub doing good food). But neither are really walkable of an evening, unless you’re armed with a good torch and a sense of adventure, because the hills back up are STEEP! Access to the local beaches is also very easy. The setting is extremely peaceful and in case you hadn’t guessed we loved it!

Thanks Andrew and Martin for a wonderful weekend.

An altogether excellent B & B. Downton Lodge is in a beautiful quiet location a few minutes drive from Dittisham. The room was well appointed and comfortable and there are very good facilities. The breakfast was outstanding.

Beautiful accommodation and location. Very clean and comfortable, excellent breakfast, and the nicest hosts you could wish for. Wide choice of teas, coffees, cakes and other drinks available in the lounge area. A perfect stay.

Room Tip: All good. Every need catered for.

Beautiful views, very good beds, lovely envirement, great hosts. We had a very nice stay here. Family of four, good breakfast, lots to see/sea and to do, i.e. Agatha Christies Greenway, Dartmouth, Dartmoor.

Room Tip: if there is anything: after 3 days a bit more variation in breakfasts?

Had a very wet weekend in Devon. Downton made it memorable for the right reasons. The locations is lovely and quiet. We enjoyed the walk to the pub at Dittisham, too.Andrew was a charming and excellent host. Looking forward to seeing the new lodge when it's complete.
