Having visited this hotel briefly as part of a group almost 6 years ago, we promised ourselves that we'd return as a family to enjoy all that it had to offer. We were not disappointed on our recent three night break during February Half Term.
One of the main reasons we chose Saunton Sands was because of the extensive activity program for children during this holiday. Our daughter enjoyed the crafts, games, cooking and even go-karting offered, and was able to make friends with children who she later saw around the hotel. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and good care was taken to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the children during the activities.
We also made use of the pool and treatment rooms, with massages and a manicure.
The breakfast buffet in the restaurant was extensive and tasty, although sometimes items were not replenished very quickly. Also, it's a long thin dining room, and we were always seated at the farthest end from the serving areas. The evening meal on our first night was beautifully presented and delicious.
The room we had was an inland-facing triple in the older part of the hotel. Although
some furniture and fittings were more dated than some of the other rooms, it was spacious, the bathroom was modern, and almost everything was spotlessly clean. (I did have to draw the attention of housekeeping to the dust on the hospitality tray, but that was quickly dealt with.) There was a little noise one evening from the children's entertainment in the room below ours, but this did not disturb us.
Our daughter commented on how friendly everyone was at the Saunton Sands Hotel, and I have to agree with her. Nothing was too much trouble, and every member of staff was helpful and friendly - without being overly familiar.
Excellent facilities; an enviable location; delicious food; helpful, professional staff - this hotel has everything you could ask for. I hope it won't be another six years before we visit again!
