“Dated, but value for money.”
Reviewed 26 June 2010

Very clean well run establishment. Room basic with dated decor, but comfortable and in good repair, the bathroom was a good size, the over bath shower was only just adequate. No lifts, and being on the 3rd floor meant a lot of stairs, wouldn't be good for anyone with mobility issues. Dining room a little cramped , shared set tables, for the duration of the stay. The service was excellent, Breakfast was good quality with enough choice for most people, full English , choice of syle of egg, cereal , fruit juice , toast. The Evening meal was A small starter,Main of meat, potatoes and two veg, or omlete, or salad, followed by a small sweet, or chease and biscuits. Unadventurouse and a bit bland, but well cooked and edible.
The hotel is beside a busy road and one of the couples we shared our table with found the road noise disturbing. The hotel is a 15 to 20 minute walk from the town, shops etc, which are best found by taking the first right up a slight hill, through a park, and down into the town. A long beach is a 10 minute walk away, great for walking your dinner down . The Talana proved a good economic base for seeing this lovely Island. We did the round Island tour with the Waverly Coach Co, a great intro to the Island, booked through the Hotel Reception. Went to the Durrel Zoo, very relaxed and nice grounds enjoyed it. Went to the German Bunkers great exhibition, insight into life during the occupation. Used the Local bus to see other parts of the island, got an all day ticket.( Bus Stop is written on the road to show where they are, there are very few signs or shelters).Elizabeth Castle was good value for money, we took the 'ferry over and walked back' the Soldiers demonstration of fireing a musket shouldn't be missed! The package was with Premier Holidays who gave an efficient friendly and effective service. Would go back to Jersey in a few years time, but try to get somwhere out of the town next time.

Gus and the staff are all very friendly and helpfull.I forgot my phone charger and liam the barman managed to get one for me.Waiting staff were great(putting up with my sister taking left over toast from the dining room to feed the geese behind the hotel.Yes parking was a bit tight on some days, but room for everyone.Would recommend booking a ground floor room if you have trouble with the stairs as there is no lift. For the price it is an excellent hotel ,very clean, always fresh flowers in lounge.I would definately go back some time.Deserving of 3* at least.

Our first trip to Jersey and this hotel was good value for money. Immaculately clean rooms, although noisy neighbours with loud TVs and voices were a little distracting! The dining room was a bit on the cramped side, and unusually we had to share a table with another couple which wasn't ideal and could have been uncomfortable. The breakfast was good, with waiter service and the waiting staff were fantastic! Dinner menu was patchy - food a little reminiscent of the 1980s, but hot, plentiful and well cooked, again with superb dining room staff. It was lovely to have a 3 course meal with coffee included in the price. Great to have free parking, although car park a little scary!! Excellent location near to beach, town centre (all within 15 minutes walk) and bus stops. Very friendly owner and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. It was lovely to sit on the patio overlooking fields and noisy geese(!) after breakfast and dinner, watching the sun go down. A swimming pool is a bonus. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel to others as a comfortable place to stay with half-board and a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere - home from home!!

Stayed for the week and consider the Talana to be an excellent value hotel, comfortable with good meals. Service is also good being family run. Location may be a problem for some, as 13 minutes walk to beach and 25 minutes to bus terminus, but our stay would have been more costly at a hotel more central in St. Helier . Would recommend this hotel, but only to anyone who was happy to walk an extra distance along busy roads.
