We stayed here during the October half-term holidays - had a 3 night special offer break. We had two rooms as we went with my mother-in-law and she shared a room with my son. The rooms were spotlessly clean - flat screen TVs, plenty of wardrobe and storage space and our room had a big double bed and a single for our daughter. The communal areas were very impressive - nice bar areas and a games room (although this attracted some over zealous youngsters who thought it a good idea to walk over the pool tables).

The food was great - plentiful and something for everyone. You do have to "book" a table especially a party of 5, even if you are half board. Bonnettis Italian restaurant was delicious, and you get money off if you are a half-board guest.

We watched the Abba group one evening - it's not generally our thing watching hotel entertainment, but they were very good.

My son had a go at the Flowrider - fantastic! He wants one now though!!

My only observation would be the staffing of the bar area. The staff switch between the lounge and lobby bar, and there was only ever one person doing this - it sometimes made for a bit of a wait, and whilst it was late in the season, there were still a lot of people wanting drinks!

We will be back

We have just spent half term at the Merton. We had a family suite which was great as kids got their own room. Food, pool, service, staff were all great. We got to eat on our own as kids went off to the playzone 6.30 till 9 and had a great time.
Entertainment a bit naff but it is the end of the season.
Will definately go again

The Merton is away from any noisy central point, and is only minutes from St Helier. It is a large complex with a range of restaurants, swimming and sauna options and bars. Out of season some restaurants my be closed or have reduced hours. The staff are friendly and willing to offer advice about places to go, restaurants to eat in etc. The rooms are comfortable and clean and brightly decorated. Powerful shower - great! Only had breakfast as prefer to go out in the evening for dinner so as not to feel attached to the hotel. Breakfast was good early doors but towards 9.30am some of it has clearly been around too long. But generally a lovely hotel with friendly staff and somewhere I'd definitely visit again. By the way, hire a car, the island is easy to drive around. But remember the island speed limit is 40mph unless stated otherwise - lots of narrow and bendy roads. Tip - restaurants in St Helier are good, but St Aubins also has some gorgeous places to eat out. Ask locals for advice. Don't just eat in your hotel - get out and explore some great places.
