Review of The Conservatory

The Conservatory
Ranked #3 of 7 Restaurants in Laragh
Cuisines: Irish
Description: The Conservatory is a hidden gem - a real find whilst we were exploring the Military Road south of Dublin, and well worth a visit, especially if you happen to be visiting Glendalough (one of Irelands most popular tourist destinations). The staff at The Conservatory are wonderfully friendly and hospitable, and the cafe/restaurant is so very quaint and gorgeous that was deservedly voted in The Bridgestone 100 best restaurants in Ireland 2010. It is an absolutely delightful and charming addition to the existing B&B.

Sit yourself down and enjoy the ambience and non rushed experience of dining here, great homemade food with plentiful servings and a carafe of coffee.

Really terrible experience. Quiche had long blonde hair in it. When complained to the blonde haired owner, she was not interested. She was actually just rude and obnoxious. Don't go. Try somewhere else or take a picnic.

Waited 10 minutes at the door, staff appear to hide from customers. Eventually left when it became clear that we were not welcome. Maybe this place if only for regular customers from Laragh? Either that or the staff were having a bad day, but based on other reviews, there are more than a few bad days.

Yesterday we did the red trail on the Wicklow gap, and we were craving a nice coffee and some place to sit quietly afterwards. We stumbled upon The Conservatory in Google Maps and I can safely say I haven't been so surprised for a while! The place is beautiful, the menu is freshly made every day and brought to you to see before you order it, and the natural atmosphere is just incredible with tended gardens and glass ceilings. The staff is super friendly, amongst them was the owner/manager who is just an incredible woman who has rescued and taken in Tina (cat), Cú (mix of Setter and black Lab) and Milly (a mix of Saint Bernard and Bernese who was almost put down by her previous owners but she is a SAINT). I cannot wait to go back - it's a little far from Dublin city but worth the trip every once in a while!

Visited here at the weekend with 2 friends. I ordered a gluten free pear & almond cake as I am a coeliac, however the following day I was very sick (and still am) & I had not eaten anything that I don’t usually apart from this cake, leading me to believe that this cake was in fact not gluten free. This cafe is also on the pricey side, €16 for slice of cake and cup of tea. Lovely decor and atmosphere but I will not be back!
