We just completed a wonderful 11 day tour of Ireland with Driftwood Tours guided by Mark Doherty. From the moment we met Mark, he made us feel comfortable and welcome. His extensive knowledge in areas such as history, art, music poetry, literature, and geology led to wonderful conversation, and frequently ended in song. Our favorite being "Danny Boy". The tour was very planned with stops in small, quaint towns which Mark referred to as being "frozen in time". The sights were fantastic, the drives scenic, the hotels comfortable, and food was delicious. We made numerous friends along the way, including fellow passengers, local artisans, and the occasional sheep or horse! I would highly recommend Vagabong/Driftwood Tours for their excellent service and personal touches!
Hello Mary T, delighted to hear you enjoyed your 11 Day Discover Ireland tour, sounds like Mark really took care of you. He is an encyclopedia of knowledge for sure! Ireland is full of gems to appreciate from landscapes to food and of course the people. Thank you for your 5* review, Rob Rankin, Owner.
Last month, my husband and I went on the Driftwood “Discover Ireland Tour” and had the time of our lives! We couldn’t have asked for a better trip – from staying at magical little inns at the bed of a beautiful lake to a full day in Dingle to castles and manors (and sheep farming!), it was just a great experience. We met so many new friends and had terrific guides in Mark Dougherty and later, Larry (see photos). The tour also covered Northern Ireland which was fascinating and beautiful – and also a little melancholy (due to the conflict there). But it made for a well rounded trip. We really feel like we know Ireland now.
What also is outstanding about this particular tour is that the group is small -- around a dozen people. And the guides know how to schedule the more touristy things to do against the big bus tour companies so you are often getting to your destination without facing big crowds of tourists (a big plus as we went in summer).
I also suggest 3-4 days in Dublin – the one thing we regretted is we didn’t stay in Dublin longer. And I suggest choosing the hotel Vagabond recommends in Dublin, Grand Canal Hotel – since we had a four week trip throughout Europe, they let us leave a bag w them so we didn’t have to lug all our luggage for our Ireland portion. The hotel is in a good location with plenty of good eateries and canals nearby. And the staff was very nice -- positive review to follow.
Hello silverlakegirl, thanks for sharing your photos, love them! Small group really allows for so many benefits, from our small vehicles getting down those twisty roads, to spontaneous lunch stops on route, and not forgetting feeling like a bunch of friends by the end of the tour! Thank you for your 5* review, Rob Rankin, Owner.
The 7-day Treasure Ireland trip exceeded our expectations. The small towns and pubs were a perfect "off the beaten path" experience, and John was an excellent tour guide and driver. Even the weather cooperated - only a couple of minor sprinkles to mar the vistas. I would highly recommend this trip.
Hello jaxn123, thank you for your 5* review of your Driftwood 7 Day Treasure Ireland tour. Sounds like you did well on the weather front, although we like the rain and all the green fields it produces here in Ireland! Rob Rankin, Owner.
Just got back from the tour and had an amazing time! Had a great group that we really enjoyed, the guides were so knowledgeable and easy to talk to. We saw so much more of Ireland than we could have seen on our own. We did some of the touristy things, but managed to avoid the crowds when we did them. We really enjoyed several off the beaten path hikes that allowed us to see more of the country from a different vantage point. My only criticism is that sometimes the bus rides got a bit long, but the guides did try to keep those interesting too. Would highly recommend this tour!
Hello martha h, thank you for your review. At Vagabond we like to try and take the stress out of travelling around Ireland on your own, our guides navigate the roads well and know all the best hidden spots. We appreciate your comment about driving, we do try and keep it to a few hours a day but sometimes when crossing Ireland it can get a little longer. Rob Rankin, Owner.
Our travel group reconnected recently to share photos and memories of our amazing Vagabond Irish Rover tour with the BEST guide, Sam!!
We enjoyed the hikes, bike rides, and the Irish Folklore and legends Sam shared with us along the way. His storytelling was a bonus. Highly recommend Vagabond tours
Hello Wanderlust31659, thank you for your 5* review, Sam is a super guide indeed. Our Guides are by far our secret sauce. Hiking in Ireland is just wonderful, epic views for not too much effort :-) Rob Rankin, Owner.
This was without doubt the best tour my wife and I have ever been on in over 30 years of travelling together. The itinerary was great, the accommodation fantastic, and Mark Doherty our tour guide was great in every respect. You won't go wrong with Vagabond/Driftwood tours
Hello Camper37616458899, WOW - thank you so much, we are very pleased to hear this. Rob Rankin, Owner.
